I have a 22/45 its pretty accurate. I like the grip better than mK II.

Well since I'm a 1911 afficianado, I've had my eye on the 22/45 for some time now. Here's one way to look at it... they're cheaper than a Ceiner .22 conversion for a 1911. And since my daughter has been hankering for me to get a .22 pistol this might just fit the bill.

I actually do not like the 22/45 mag release because my el cheapo (but very serviceable) Hunter holster tends to press on the release and pop the mag.  Kind of a pain in the field.

But other than that, I am pleased with mine.  I have never tried to swap the top ends for my MkII and 22/45.  They don't look very different.

Nice thing about the whole MKII series is that they are rough enough that I don't mind trying my version of "improvements" on them.  Wouldn't do that to a SW 41

I just shot my MKII Target today.  target sights, 5 1/2" bull barrel, great gun.  I have had it for 19 years, I have a 2x scope in an OLD style B-square mount that lets you use the iron sigts too.  Real tack driver, great squirrel gun, but buy the 22/45.  Same gun, better grip.  I have been told the mags and tops are interchangeable.  That makes sense in terms of costs for Ruger.

I have made my own wood grips, and I have futzed with it forever, but the grip angle is just not great when you try shooting from a bench for real accuracy.  I love the gun, but the 22/45 feels better.

I plan to get one with an integrally suppressed barrel!

I have a 22/45 top on a MKII frame. Did it some time ago, the rear of the barrelled assembly needed to be filed just a bit to get the latch to close. The MKII top did drop right onto the 22/45 frame with no problems. The reason I switched, I wanted the rarer 4 1/4? inch adjustable sighted barrel on a MKII and could only find it in a 22/45. It was only offered one year in that length. All polished up like a mirror, volquartson sear, points nice too. Not sure on mag bodies, Kurt.

Get a 22/45 and 10 extra mags and you are good to go.  One big difference is that you can actually take the receiver off the grip frame without using a mallet!

That's naturally what I would assume too. This would allow different 'top ends' to go on the same grip/trigger. This is my aim. I have a older grip frame that I have been building various pieces for and 'fixing up' for a few years now. I'm about to finish it up.

I don't know about the top ends being interchangeable or not, but I'm sure the magazines are NOT.

I don't care much for the slick feel of the plastic used in the 22/45.  I wish they made a steel version.
