im looking for a new pistol perferably 9mm. I have a 1911 .45ACP and a beretta 92fs which is a great gun, but im not crazy over the 1911.
If i would get one it would be the XD9 or the Glock 17(since i already have a beretta or it would be the third option) no matter which one i get i know that im going to be happy with it, but which one do you perfer? i plan on handling both before i buy, i might trade my 1911. what do you guys think? i have limited knowledge on the springfield |

from a couple of people i've spoken to, some are accurate with glock, some with sa. You have to see which one you are. When you're done shooting them both come back and let us know which one you like better, and which one you were more accurate with
|

I don't think you can wrong with either the XD9 or the Glock 17. I have had a couple of Glock 23's and I just recently picked up an XD .45 Compact. For me, the XD fits my hand better......If Springfield would make the XD9 with a 4" barrel and a shorter grip frame (Similar to a Glock 19), then I would buy one in a hearbeat!!!!

For CCW the G26 has few rivals. Shoots dead on, as well as the longer barrels.
For power, be a man and get the G29 or G20, both 10mm and see what XD matches up with them (none). |

Try shooting the glock and the XD before you make your decision. The oblique grip of the glock was uncomfortable to me and I found the XD more to my liking. Both are great guns.

i just picked up an XD40.
the biggest reason i went with the XD over the glock was the mag release. i cannot for the life of me press the mag release on the glocks. that being said, the XD was a semi impulse buy. i like it but i dont like the idea of SA only, on the same note i dont like the idea of DA only. my next gun will be a DA/SA. one of the things i like most about the springfield that i was not aware of when i bought it, is that the gun comes with a life time warranty. |

I myself would much prefer the G17. Better pistol, for me, in my own opinion. That's why I'm carryin' one right now.

I have yet to see one thing an XD does better than Glock.
I've seen multiple things that Glock does better than XD. If the Glock fits your hands, IMHO its the clear choice no quesiton. |

+1 Glock, hands down |
|
If you want to leave it stock, then get a Glock. If you don't mind spending extra $$ in mods, the XD is the way to go. The XD for me.

Most people will tell you that the XD is more 'ergonomic' than the Glock. This is because of the grip angle.
I've never owned a Glock but have shot a few... it just seems like the XD points better. |
|
I prefer how the XD fits my hand over a glock, not a big fan of the grip safety, the glock has a longer track record but the XD is catching up. I think either one would serve you well.

DO NOT TRADE your 1911!!!
I have the glock 19... The XD has safety features, that you would be familiar w/ thanks to ur 1911... The glock trigger sucks... A cheap fix... The glock sights suck... A relatively cheap fix... If you like the ergonomics of 1911 the XD will feel great. My main reason for the G19 over the XD9 is simple. I live in NY and the availability of pre ban mags (over 10 rounds) was paramount when looking at the two. If I could purchase the XDM9, I would have. Sticking to one platform (9mm, .40, .45.) is certainly not needed, esp if it's 9mm. For the sake of loving guns and celebrating america's short history, the 1911 is a must have. same as a M1 garand, an AR-15, etc.. |

XD-40 back to the factory 3 times total for FTE problems in 4000 rds. Sold it when it got fixed for the 3rd time. No regrets!
Glock 17 flawless for 15,000 rounds up to the point I bent the slide catch/release torture testing it. Still cycled fine, just wouldn't lock back. Fixed in a couple minutes for a few bucks. Sold it because I really needed money and still regret it to this day! |
|
I have both and would buy both again. I like my XD triger way better than my Glock, but they say it's an easy fix. Out the box my Glock was dead on, I had to learn how to shot my XD. The first two times to the range I was shooting to the left. My XD is my HD gun and my Glock is my CCW.
|
|
have them both, like them both... the XDs are very comfortable shooters, even the .45 isn't overly big compared to the Glock counterpart but I am a glock fan and collector. FWIW, I carry my XD45 everyday and it's sort of my go-to. Haven't had a single failure of any kind with any of my Springfields, 9mms and 45s, likewise for my Glocks.

Really, any of the new poly frame guns will serve you well. Try as many as you can, see what fits your hand, what you can shoot the best with and go from there. I have a glock, xd and an m&p, I have had 0 problems with all of them.

Get Both!
Sorry, I had to, it's Arfcom, lol I used to hate the G17 until my mom gave me hers. The more I shot it, the more I liked it. I still don't know if I like it better than my XD40 Tactical, but it's close. You really can't go wrong with either, no matter what the die-hard Glock fanboys say. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

My son has a XD and I don't care for the way it fits my hand, I recently picked up a G19 and like it very much. They both shoot good, and I think you need to pick up them both and see for yourself which one is more to your liking.

My shooting buddy bought 3 XD's, 40 compact, 9mm full size and a 45 Tactical. I've shot all 3 of them quite a bit. They all shoot really good. They're all somewhat ammo finicky, not that big of a deal, but worth noting. Next, they have more muzzle flip than the equivalent Glock. Again, not that big of a deal, but worthy of note when comparing. The XD45 has an excellent grip and trigger reach, better than the G21 (non SF). For my large hands it's not a big deal, but again, when comparing it's worthy of note if you've got small or medium sized hands. And I'm not a big fan of grip safeties, but you may be different. No 10mm XD, you probably don't care, but it's a deal killer for me. And last but not least, I like the trigger and the reset on the Glock better, and the options for modding it with different connectors and return springs, something which, last time I checked, wasn't as easy on the XD.
The upshot is there's nothing the XD brings to the table for me that the Glock doesn't do as well or better for the same price. Now should SA make the XD/m in 10mm then I'll take another look, but so far SA has expressed no interest in the 10mm. BTW, my buddy sold his 40 and 9mm XD's but he's keeping the .45 Tactical. |

I prefer the glock. I hated glocks until I actually shot one(Including a 33 round mag dump ) after that I liked them.
The XDm I shot felt nice and it was dead accurate, but it's a bit tall. |
|
Both are great guns. Go with what ever fits you best.
My brother likes XDs. I like Glocks. It makes for interesting debates at times hehe. |

Own three Glocks. 34, 19, 17. Never a hiccup.
Shot an XD at a range - Jammed every 10 or so rounds. |
|
Tough call. I own both. I shoot both in IDPA competion. I have over 5000 rds through both with 0 problems. I like the glock trigger better. I like the XD grip and grip angle better. I actually shoot the glock a little better in competion due to the trigger. If I had to carry 1 into combat, I would choose the Glock. Voted for the Glock, in 9mm. I would vote for the XD in 45 because even the Glock 45 SF doesn't fit my hand as well as the XD 45 and I shoot the XD 45 better than the Glock 45.

When you're done shooting them both come back and let us know which one you like better, and which one you were more accurate with What he said. The grip angles are different; the XD is sort of more 'erect,' while the Glock is less so. Shoot what you are comfortable with. The Glock, you should know by now, suffers from a deficiency which prevents it from using +P ammo*. The defect is that the rear of the chamber is so short, it doesn't fully support the base of the casing. Shooting regular-pressure ammo is OK but high-pressure (+P) ammo is forbidden. *It may have been corrected. Glockees will let us know, I'm sure. |

I love my Glock pistols but yet to own a full size one. I did vote for a Glock on the poll. But I am yearning for a Beretta 92FS. I had a Taurus knock off (PT-99 AFS) and enjoyed for 15 years until I sold it last year. I just may get a Beretta next time around.

Taco punch whoever told you that. 9mm Glocks I know for sure are safe with +P+ ammo, and I'd assume everything else is safe with +P. The .40 Glocks have had problems, but the usual cause is shitty ammo, shitty reloads, or a combination of the two. |

i have had both and still have the XD. just better for me. didnt purchase either until i had shot both multiple times.

Hopefully I will let you know tomorrow. I carry and shoot a Glock 19 in USPSA but I picked up an XDM 9 today.

|
I see no one chiming in uses a .40 Glock ... wonder why that is
