I wanted to do a poll, but I couldn't figure out how so here we go.  

Is your Desert Eagle reliable?  

-What model is it?

I own an older model. Chambered in .357 mag, and I shoot full power 158gr jacketed  ammo as per the manual.

Yes it's reliable with the 158gr ammo. Not all that whoopie with 125gr hollowpoints though! Shoots quite accurately too. Just as good as about any revolver.

You didn't ask if I like the gun. No, don't really like it all that much. Too big/heavy. I'm 6ft tall with normal size hands, and this is a "Paul Bunyan" sized piece of hardware! Large for me.

The pistol was inherited, I didn't buy it. A fine firearm other than the weight and size. I always considered these way way overpriced. The gun is interesting in design, and well made, but the finish work on the parts leaves a bit to be desired from the price standpoint.

Mine doesn't have any grooves on the barrel rib, and I'm not all that familiar with DE models. I got this gun from my father in law when he died. He bought it new in the mid 1990's.

The one I shoot, a .357 model, needs full power .357 ammo to work, last used AE 158 grain.

It short strokes with wimpy ammo.

I had an older IMI 44mag and it was a jam-o-matic.  All factory ammo and mags and it would FTF at least every other mag.

A friend of mine has an older 44mag, and it is anything but reliable.  He's been meaning to get it worked on for years, and hasn't gotten around to it.

I had the early 357mag. I bought it because it was on sale $300 under the market price at that time. It required 158gr AE. It still will jam one round per mag. It was the older model (IMI Made in Israel). I broke it down  as parts and sold it(and transferred the frame). With that fund,  bought an USP Tactical.

I would not recommand 357mag DE (at least early models).

I had an early .44mag version and it would not run on factory loads. My friend and I worked up a load using a full charge of Win 296 and 180gr XTP bullets for it. The blast was terrible but it ran like a champ and when it hit something it was impressive.

I appreciate all the input.  From the looks of it it seems the older models aren't very reliable.  
It's a shame the 125gr. .357 hollowpoints won't work in them.

I have the Baby Eagle .40 caliber.  Absolutely dependable.  I have owned it for approximately 4 years and haven't had a single problem.  I have shot Winchester ammunition primarily, but have used the Remington UMC for the value.  Both rounds have been positive experiences.

MK VII 44 MAG here, operates well with cheap magtech 240 gr ammo and stout handloads. Keep it clean and lubbed and rock n roll!

Can the .44 models shoot Corbon 165gr JHP?
