15 rounds of 124 grain FMJ 9mm PARA

or 7 rounds of 230 grain FMJ .45 ACP?

Two ways to look at it with various detriments to each

9mm
* 15 rounds, more shots to shoot
* Weaker bullet, 3 or 4 shots before one should/may check to see if the target is 'no longer a threat'
* Better for 'multiple threats' (unrealistic though, but still true)
* Multiple hits (3 or more) will be ammo for the DA to prosecute you, you monster.

45
* Less ammo, 7+1 or so
* More potent round, most conflicts (That even require shooting) are between one bogey, close range, and rarely ever go past a few shots (IE revolvers were adaquate and kind of still are)
* Focus more on focused shots/bullet placement, less likely to spray extra shots and hurt bystanders/ricochet

In all honesty, one would be better off with a .45acp and a mindful of experience to point and shoot accurately.

What kind of gun would this be? Hard to believe two guns of the same size would hold 15 rounds of 9mm or 7 rounds of .45.

Most "carry" 9mm's will hold 10 rounds.
Most "carry" .45's will hold 6/7 rounds.(Glock 36, SIG P245, etc.)

If this were the case I would choose the 7 rounds of .45 but if the same gun could hold 15 rounds of 9mm I would take another look at the 9mm.

Another thing is what is the situation? regular everyday CCW? If so then .45

Switch the 9MM to a hollowpoint in +P, in the summer, I'm in.
The .45 for winter use, even FMJ.
Didn't the .40 cal ever settle this argument?

WTF? Weaker Bullet? Bad shoot - prosecutor dumping on you? Revolvers are kinda still adequate? WTF?

15 rounds of 9mm may not be enough.

Two or three of .45 certainly is.

So I'll take the .45's.

I have both.

I choose to carry the Wilson 1911 with 8 + 1, 230 grain hollow point. Two extra mags on my hip.

I have several i like but the .45 is my favorite. 9mm has never impressed me performance wise. If I can't find my target with 7+1 maybe I deserve to lose. Your opinion may vary....

Where have you been hiding? This is the classic .45 vs. 9mm question that is right in there with "double action vs. single action", "weaver vs. isosceles" and "revolver vs. auto"

Full size, single stack .45s (aka the 1911) hold 7 or 8 rounds. Full size, double stack 9mms from Beretta, Sig, CZ, S&W, Ruger and pretty much every body else on the planet except Glock hold 15 if you get a pre-ban magazine or are police/military and can don't have to worry about the ban.

I've stopped carrying my Colt Gold Cup and instead, because of size, I carry a Springfield Ultra-Compact in 9mm - only holds 8 though, but the small footprint does it for me.

And I still haven't. I've got a Kimber 1911, a Beretta 92FS, a Safariland 6004 holster for each and no chance in sight for deciding which I prefer. I tend to lean towards the Kimber for the more powerful round and the fact that I'm a bit more accurate with it, but I'm an okay shot with the Beretta and it does have a big edge in capacity and a slight edge in ammo availability.

Both will get the job done but I guess it really depends on where I'm going and what I plan to do when I get there.

The Glock 30 is about the same size as most 9mm pistols yet holds 10 rounds of .45 It's slightly wider width doesn't hamper IWB concealment. I'm very comfortable with it.

That's a great answer!

I have both a Wilson CQB and a Beretta 92FS. I'm probably more accurate with the Beretta, but that's due to the fact that I've owned it for over 10 years and shot it a zillion times.

I carry the Wilson though cuz of the power of the .45 round.

I'm trying to shoot it often and get better and better with it each time I shoot it.

I really want to take some combat pistol classes at someplace like Blackwater or Thunder Ranch.

I feel the same way you do about keeping both though. I will carry both in a SHTF situation and use the one that's appropriate for the conditions.

This is something of a fun question.
The last time a lunatic quadruple murderer escaped from the State pen and was running around the neighborhood, I kept a 1911 on my nightstand loaded with 230 gr. FMJ. BUT, if we were to speak of a hypothetical situation in which I were being chased through a maze by the same lunatic, and I passed a table upon which were each of the two guns in question, I could pick up ONE, but ONLY ONE, which would I choose? I'd probably grab the Hi cap 9!!!!

I have picked up both my 45 and my 9mm for carry.

But let me throw this in.. I have a Wilson Rodgers 8rn 1911 mag. So with 1 in the pipe and 8 rn clip, that gives me 9 45's!

I go with the .45

Keeping in mind, go ahead and carry more than one gun if caliber choice is something that really irks you.

Summertime, probably not, but now that it's starting to get cold I've been experimenting with how comfortable carrying my full size 1911 in holster and my five shot 38spl in my coat pocket on a daily basis.
Once it gets really cold I could easily carry my high capacity SigP226 9mm (15 round 9mm option) as well as my full size Colt 1911 (7 round .45 option). Will I do it? No. But choose just choose the caliber you're comfortable with, it ain't that hard.

15 124 grain Gold Dot +Ps out of a CZ-75B. If its a 9mm or a .45 the raging madman gets mozambiqued regardless.

CRC, why would one be using FMJ in this situation? Its a pretty limited answer, but it comes down to shot placement, IMO.
