It looks pretty nice, although, I wonder why they bothered getting into the already crowded 1911 market.
They have been hyping a new release lately on the forums and I was hoping for a 10mm.

The 1911 is a wonderful weapon when done properly, and people are beginning to like the good accuracy and trigger pull the big pistol provides. They are also thinking that since we are limited to 10 rounds, you may as well carry as big a bullet as you can get in the mag well.

The 10 round limitation single handedly promoted the 1911 back to prominence. And lets face it: A good 1911 has always been the Cadillac of handguns. They are just plain cool in adition to being accurate and reliable weapons. (When done properly...)

My only concern is about how good the quality of all these 1911's are. I have not been impressed with the Springfields. The higher-end Kimbers seem OK. I didn't really like the S&W 1911.

But I guess after a Les Bear everything else is anti-climactic.

Only logged in sigforum members are seeing the pictures, even here I believe.

They are doing this for the same reason as S&W and all the others. People want 1911's for competition guns. A DA/SA gun w/o a safety is still an improvement for carry, but the SA only 1911 is better for competition.

Their sport versions of the 220s and 226s didn't take off because of the DA triggers, and the super accurate 210s didn't take off because they are 9mm and not major calibers. So, 1911 it is.

I'll definitely take a good look at it when it comes time for me to get a 1911.

BTW, I believe that the SF members who have been caught copying the pictures and posting them on other boards have been obliterated by Parabellum

I like it. I like the way the slide has the "sig" lines to it.

Is it me or does the top of the slide seem almost flat?

It looks good like that, how come no one(Mfgs, not custom shops) ever made a slide with a flat top before?

Registered just so I could take a look at it.

They call it the Granite Series Pistol – and to me, it’s just another 1911 that wouldn’t be allowed in the Single Stack Classic (cuz of the external extractor and rail mount).

Other than that, it’s real pretty – it has “SIG” lines to it like was said before. The thumb safety looks very Wilson, the sights very Novak (fixed), and the grip safety has a real serious “flare” to it (I wonder if people will be taping it down like LAPD SWAT is doing to their Kimbers?). The trigger has an adjustable reset, but fortunately, that’s an easy thing to take out for serious defensive duty. Oh, and NO MIM parts (which is apparently important to somebody).

What is cool is how SIG apparently gives a shit about their fans – people weren’t jumping out of their skins when S&W released a 1911 – but because the Dir. of Marketing at SIG is an active forum member (and how smart is that?) people over there are just FREAKING out over this pistol. One can only hope that the gun will match the hype (and I honestly have no doubt that with SIG making these guns – they’re going to be fantastic!)

Colt 1991 was a big mistake on Colt's part. Colt makes mediocre handguns in general, except maybe the Python and Anaconda that are $$$ but very nice. The SIG GSR 1911 will own any 1991 any day, any time, with any ammo. SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG SIG

What's the hype? I just hope this doesn't slow down production of the 220 which is the only other fullsize .45 besides a 1911 that you can get in singlestack. I'm not gonna ask why we need another 1911, SIG obviously has a reason. Really though is this gun gonna do anything other than what every other 1911 does right now. I wonder how much this ones gonna cost $1200-$1400 probably. Hope it's worth it. As for me I'll wait for my 220 to come in and hope and pray that CZ makes a singlestack 97B someday.

Like I said SIG obviously has a reason but I just wish somebody would come out with something NEW. If you'd buy a H&K 1911 I bet you'd buy a single stack USP .45. All the glock shooters would probably love to see a single stack fullsize glock .45 acp. I know I want a single stack 97B. That's all I'm saying all these companies have rumors of a 1911, I just wish they would take there already great guns and make 'em single stack. Hell they could take 1911 mags for that matter but why can't anybody come out with something diffrent. It seems that lately everybody is scared to take a chance on a new product.

Count me in on that Glock. Who the hell asked for a .45 short anyway?

For that matter - which SIG fans were clamoring for a SIG 1911???!!??

It seems handgun manufacturers are looking to make quick bucks - and the way to do that isn't by putting your engineer's noses to the grindstone and coming up with a new pistol line (like the lukewarm SIG Pro line) - but instead find ways to slap a known popular seller together from available parts.

The sights are Novak, the safety (and other parts I'm sure) is Wilson, and I think I heard that the barrel was Nowlin and that the slide/frame are made by Caspian.

All in all, I'm sure it'll be a great gun - but unless it's priced at under $900 - the only people that'll want it are the SIG-boys.

There sure seems to be a lot of sharks in the fishtank for some reason - is this what the public is demanding? Another 3-pound single stack .45?

That's exactly what I said when I saw the external extractor.

I also prefer the Series 70 firing system for its simplicity. The Series 80 addressed a non-existent problem; done purely for liability concerns.

That being said, I still want one!

As much as I like the concept of the external extractor, I agree with Hydguy.

I'm becoming a 1911 purist. My next 1911 (Wilson 1996A2 is currently my #1 gun) will likely be a Colt Series 70 1911 -- traditional roll mark and only rear vertical serrations <aaahhhh>.

Sorry, but the new SIG 1911 isn't anything special. It's just another well put together 1911. And I'd bet that the MSRP is around $1,400.

I don't like any of the new "style" design changes. Heck, it doesn't look like it'll fit in regular 1911 holsters with the different cuts.

I love SIG's and all, but as far as 1911's go, this is nothing special.

Actually I should have been more specific. It "seems" that there is beginning to be some degree of standardization on rails and holsters to fit those pistol.

I was curious as to what extent, if at all, the different cuts on the slide (SIG grooves on sides and straight angled cut in front of the dustcover) effect fit on standard 1911 rail holsters.

I would also guess that SIG will make a model available without a light rail. Will that model fit in a standard 1911 holster?
