I bought a Delta elite in '88 to replace my Gold cup as a duty weapon. I put about 1000 rounds thru it and went back to my .45.

The 10mm 170gr Hornady ammo I was using was hot, too hot. Recoil was punishing and muzzle flip excessive. At least in my opinion.

YMMV

Never had the Colt 10mm, but from what I have seen and heard, it is just not the best platform for this cartridge. My personal favorite of the several I have owned was a S&W 1076...ala the FBI model, but the Glock 20 also does a pretty good job with it. Unlike SGB I never felt it was any more punishing than .45 ball, but I only tried a few boxes of Norma and one of the Hornady...and I never tried them in the Colt. My preferred load was the WW Silvertip 175gr.

When the cartridge was first introduced, the Delta Elite was one of the first platforms.  I saw a few in IPSC competitions.  Jam City!

I'd stick with a .45, 9MM or .38 Super in a 1911.
