Hey everyone.  I have decided to buy a 1911 but there are so many different companies and styles what sould I go with? I am planing on using it for range and occasional carry piece.  As long as its not much over $1200 I would like to know about it.  Thanks for any info.

This is like saying you're buying a car for less than $50,000 & what should you get?

The usual brands are good: Colt, Kimber, Springfield Armory, Para Ordnance, & now S&W.

There's also Wilson & Les Baer if you want the best made.

Avoid the brands Charles Daly, Safari & Llama. I'm sure there's other brands that others will mention to avoid.

At that spending limit, you should be able to squeeze out 2 good used ones and double your pleasure.
My example...one SA for $325 AND a SS 1991 for $425 and lots of magazines, ammo and goodies with the remainder. (Prices vary, of course)
On that thought, one compact for carry and one 5 incher for the range?

STI Trojan Single Stack

Best factory semi custom 1911 in the $1000 range. To get anything better you have to get a true 1911 smith build you a custom pistol. Ready for competition, about the same price as the higher end kimbers.

Wilson makes a polymer framed 1911 in that price range.  WILSON COMBAT ...you might want to check it out.

Had a Kimber, did'nt like it! It kept jamming up even with the recommended ammo :(, it was very dissapointing! I traded it for a SA and it's been great! The Kimber's probably still a good gun just did'nt hold up th my abuse I guess!
