I was wondering if anyone has tried to modify another magazine to function in a sig 226? I know there are some out there that are a whole lot less expensive than factory highcaps . Kinda like the Beretta mags that are being modified to fit in the Springfield XD9 or Walther 99's. Any ideas ? Thanks

Beretta 92 mags will work in both P226 & P228 (and probably P229) and are much cheaper than SIG mags. They do require that you cut an additional mag catch slot in the mag body using a dremel or something similar. If you want it to hold the slide open after the last shot, you will also have to add a little JBWeld to the follower so that it engages the slide stop correctly. (Make sure to carefully trim the JBWeld so that it doesn't cause the follower hang up in the mag tube. I picked up a couple inexpensive Asian mags with the pot-metal followers and made these changes and it worked fine.

I wouldn't suggest using them for carry, but they are suitable for range use.

(The mag will still work in the Beretta, so you are not creating a new hi-cap mag although it will trip the Beretta slide stop with 1-2 rounds still remaining in the mag.).

Thanks , That is exactly what I was wondering! I too was thinking of modifying a cheap $20.00 Asian military mag but now I can go ahead with it ! I know that it will work ! I was going to use a 1/8" endmill to cut the extra notch in the body and a 3/16" for the other. Thanks for your reply! Mike

You only have to cut the slot on the right side of the mag as only one side engages the mag catch.
