Another thumbs up to the HP USP. The P99 also looks like a sweet piece. Don't forget to consider the more exotic options such as the HK P7 or a 9mm 1911. The Beretta 92 is another great option for mag availability. Sig 225's, 226's and 229's are marvelous guns. You can't go wrong with the classic browning high power either.
I know I'm not helping, but there are tons of great 9mm's on the market. |

EAA Witness (ONLY the steel-framed one). Reliable, well-made, mags are cheap ($30 for a factory 15-rder), they'll feed ball AND HPs without "tweaking" it to do so, very comfortable grip frame, and they're not expensive at all. (I paid $350 NIB for mine)
Edited to add: A friend of mine, who owns a dozen or more handguns, has told me that his Beretta 92 is the only handgun he will never EVER get rid of. |

Strictly accuracy wise, either a H&K USP or P7M8. A pubic hair less is the Browning HP, Beretta 92FS & probably Glock.
FWIW, I own all those in 9mm except for the USP, it's in .45acp. |

Do you prefer new or used? Since you mentioned tight economy, I figure price may be an issue. In order of approx retail new price: Ruger P series, Springfield XD series, Glock 9mm series, SigPro, Beretta 92 series, Sig classic series, HK USP |

CZ75B is going to be hard to beat, though I do think a lot of the XD at the moment.
If you're only talking about target shooting, a fully adjustable rear sight would seem to be a necessity. I like my Berettas but I can't say they are the most accurate guns I own. My P225 is quite accurate, the P226 I used to own, less so. The Glock 34 (longslide 9mm) with adjustable sight may also be a good candidate, if you can live with it. Same for the HK USP, though its trigger may need some work. I own a 30 year old High Power that is the most accurate 9mm I have, but unfortunately there is a comparative dearth of accessories and mods available for it. It's not the easiest gun to tweak. |

My 92fs Inox is more accurate than I can shoot it. It impresses me each time I take it out. I carry it as my primary CCW also.

For target shooting and not CC I would look at any make with adjustable sights, as Ken pointed out.
As most loads group to differing points of aim, you would be able to adjust for it, IMO. To name a few as examples, Smith's, some CZ's and Glock's can be had in that form out of the box. Maybe I'm reading too much into your requirements..."only used for target shooting"? And a big welcome to ya, Yank!  |

If money isnt a problem, you wont find a 9mm that is more accurate in my book. Other than that, it would be a tie for me between a Sig P226 and a H&K USP9. |

Thanks guys. The reason for the 9mm is because I like that round. It is also a fairly good round to teach my son when he gets old enough. That is why I was lookin fer a good gun with accuracy. You have given me a ton to think about. You have mentioned some models that I would have not considered before now. I will definitely look into the browning. The Beretta was top on my list but now I will have to test fire the Glock and HK. Thanks again for your comments. I love this site. I can see me staying up at all hours of the night reading post. Great! And I thought collecting guns was bad habit. Now I am addicted to this site.

I am a HUGE fan of the Sig P225 and 226. If the dollars really matter you can usually find an LE trade in (I have one of each), for a couple hundred less than the new. That is, if you can life with some finish wear. My P225 is so awesome it is about to get refinished. |

If you have a chance, and you're looking into beretta, see if any gunshop has both the standard and elite models. My elite has a much nicer trigger than the 92's I looked at (I assume that's an elite feature, but mine was used, so it could have been a mod).
Only issue there is if you're using it to teach your son, elites don't have safety, just decock... |

accuracy and 9mm autoloaders are not synomous.
several mentions of the EAA witness, full size, all steel, brings to mind the .45 caliber one i had. yes, had, a buddy finally begged it away from me. this pistol was near as accurate as the accurized 19lls that i have. shot everything without fail from full house 230's to 185 grain wadcutters. being an old bullseye shooter, i am picky on triggers. it took a trigger job nicely. if considering a 9mm for target use, i would go with the EAA. finding target ammo may present a problem. buy a box of everything and try it. should be something out there you both like. |

vote(Browning)++ Make sure that you take out the magazine safety, and you'll have a trigger that betters many good 1911's. And there's the benefit of readily available $20 milsurp 13 round mags. |

Personal preference would be a Glock. That said nearly all modern pistols function very well. Buy the one that fits your hand the best and has the controls in the best place for you personally. As far as accuracy goes, no offense but the pistol is going to shoot better than you. What I mean is that you probably won't be able to tell which is more accurate. Nothing is worse than owning a gun that you don't like because it is "the best".

For your purposes a SIG would be good. They have very nice triggers.
Beretta triggers are awful. I've never found 92s to be especially accurate either. The Glocks are not the best target shooting pistols due to the trigger, but they are surprisingly accurate. |

What about a Walther P99, interchangeable backstraps make it usable for you and also it will fit your sons smaller hands with a quick change. I just picked up the P99 in 9mm, I was quite suprised at how little the recoil was, must be from only using .41 mags my whole life. Not to expensive either got mine for about $525.

I will never buy a Glock.
My suggestion would be the Hi Power. It's the 1911 of 9mm. Hi cap mags are plenfitul and reasonably priced. Parts are plentiful as well. Also IT'S NOT PLASTIC. PLASTIC IS FOR TOYS.

I wwuld say that the Beretta triggers are heavy off the shelf, but not gritty, stagy, or creepy. That would be a bad trigger. My 92 trigger was heavy until I installed a Wolf hammer spring. Now it is excellent; not as nice as my Makarov with trigger work, but still, nothing to gripe about. As for the accuracy, I was not expecting anything impressive either when I got mine. I am still impressed each time I take it out. |

okay , as far as 9mm goes, what bout the MAGNUM RESERCH BABY EAGLE, i handled one and it was super comfy ( all steel upper and lower). what are sum opinions on this one. i too am lookin at a non-carry 9mm, was lookin at Walther (til i found out they are made by S&W) and the HK .

Thats a new one to me. Correct me if I am wrong but the only thing that I knew that had the S&W and Walther logo on it was the frame that is supplied to S&W for their SW99. Other than that Walther makes their own model. |

I recommended the MRI Baby Eagle right up until my firing pin broke. They told me not only could they not ship me a replacement pin, they would have to have the gun shipped to them for repair, and best of all, could NOT ship it back to my residence, but only to my dealer or my business. Screw that. Also, for the record, S&W doesn't make Walther products, they merely import them much as Interarms used to. |
