I am debating purchasing a "custom" 1911. Either Wilson, Les or Springfield Pro.
But, it gets to the point that you can't shoot all the pistols you have. (or at least enjoy them as much) So, I toy with selling one of the guns I have, but as we all know at some point you will want that gun back.
I hate to sell my HK MK23, but it would make the purchase alot easier to handle.
Hate to sell the P7m8, and I do like the FN 5.7 alot.........the rest of the guns are not as valuable so it's not worth selling one of those. (HK's, revolvers etc)
Not having shot many 1911s, I hate to ditch one gun to get the 1911 and later realize the gun I had was more versatile or fit the bill better.
So I am looking for some perspective on how a high end 1911 would into your collection....
1. Your favorite (get the 1911 and you will forget about the other guns you have)
2.just another gun in the safe (don't blow the wad on a 1911)
3. not that great compared to__(insert another gun model)______
4. get all the guns you can and don't worry about it (but I am trying to be practical)

I don't think I could ever get rid of my S&W 686, Les Baer TRS or Sig 220. All the others while very nice don't speak to me the same way and that's what it's all about.

My last to go sentimentally would be my father's issue sidearm, which he gave me and I intend to give to my son one day.

My last to go practically would be one of my G19s (my primary CCW for many years now).

It sounds like you have enough money to not really have to worry about having just one gun.

However, if you were going to have just one, it would have to be one that you can comfortably CCW, so a compact 1911, or the P7m8 would be it.

You are really asking the wrong question. You should be asking yourself: Can I afford to have $5000 tied up in guns I don't shoot.
Only you can answer that question.

If I could only have one and only one handgun, it would unequivocally be a Hi Power. That's actually pretty easy for me.

The same question but for rifles, and I don't think I could answer.

You're wanting to be practical but have a MK 23 and a FN 5.7 knocking around?

Just buy the 1911 and be happy!

Get yourself a Kimber.

For a few hundred bucks, you can have just as good of guts and trigger as the big boys, at a fraction of the cost.

My vote would be...

Kimber Custom II with night sights as a start.

Shoot it, see if you like it, then from there add on what you want.

Buy up some Ed Brown tool steel parts, have a good smith install the parts that need fitting, and you will have a 1911 that will last as long as the big boys, and probably shoot pretty well too.

My Robert Miller "massaged" Kimber with a stock barrel and tool steel ed brown parts (barrel bushing, FCG parts, etc) managed a 1.3" ransom rested group at FIFTY yards with FGMM 185 grain ammunition...which is better than alot of the decent 1911's will do at 25 yards.

If I could only have ONE handgun it would be my Wilson Combat Stealth..... but I would still have to have my ONE LE6920 for an AR.... and I would have to keep at least ONE of my Colt revolvers.... probably my Python... or Anaconda.... or my Viper

I'd go with #1 and get the baddest Wilson you can afford. I sold 2 Kimbers to buy my Wilson. You can only shoot one at a time anyway.

I think if I had to keep just one, it would have to be my Les Baer Custom Carry. It is accurate, 100% reliable, and fits me like a glove. I would say you're on the right track getting one. I wouldn't get rid of the P7, I love mine too. I never saw much practical in the Mk23 though. I would say if you have to sell it in order to get a Baer, go for it.

It is hard to pick only two...

1. Tuned .45 ACP. I took a AMT frame and built it out
2. My Glock 23. I have a LoneWolf .40 SW, .357Sig & 9mm barrels and mags for it. It is one of the best shooting CCWs I own
3. Any S&W revolver. I love my Mdl 442
