As some of you know i had been deciding between a M&P .40 and a XD .45. I went to the gun show and bought a XD .45 with the 4" barrell for 569.00 It wasnt that good of a price because everyone was buying them and they didnt have to sell them cheaper. with it came a speed loader, 2 13 rd. mags and a case. Sound like a descent deal? I cant wait utnil it clears and i can pick it up.

for those who own one what grain and manufacture have you noticed that shoots the best for it? thanks

Because you asked... no it doesn't/didn't sound like a descent deal. All XDs come with a case, 2 SS mags, gun lock, and XD gear which includes a holster, mag loader, double mag pouch. The reason the price was so high was because you bought your pistol from a gunshow. Not to further burst your bubble, I'm getting a new Bi Tone 5" XD45 for $520 plus tax. Anyways, congrats on the new gun. I can't wait to get mine.

I purchased a XD-45 5" Tactical about a month ago.  I'm a long time Glock fan but must admit, this a very nice pistol.

I reload and my normal practice load is a 230 gr FMJ so can't help with what factory load is best.  That can vary from gun-to-gun of the same make anyway so for the most part, you will have to see what your particular gun likes the best.  Good luck and enjoy.

Mine seems to really like the Winchester SXT in 230 grain. This isn't supposed to be the best of the best in defensive loads, but if it opens at all, it will work just fine. It seems very accurate and shoots under 1" at 15yds. off hand. The 185 grn silver tips worked great as well, but the groups were very slightly larger.

travism30,

Congrats on getting one gret pistol. You did get ripped on the price though but that is done with so enjoy the pistol. I would not trade either of my XD .45s for two M&Ps. Just my opinion though. One great thing about the XD is (mine are anyway) it is a .45 that eats anything. Mine prefers Hornandy 200GR XTP  +P HPs.

xd's are selling for 579-599 here in MT.  That is up from about 530 a few months ago.  Mine like 230's so far.

eta: those prices are for the 5"

Yeah, you got ripped.  They go for $499 around here.  If I was you, I would have waited and come back in the last couple of hours of the gun show.  I am willing to bet the gun would have still been there, and he probably would have sold it for close to $100 cheaper than what he did.  Although XD sales have picked up in the last couple of years, I don't think they fly off the dealer shelves like they claim.  They just would prefer to sell an XD over a Glock because they can make more money that way.

Remember the days when you could get the HS2000 for $300 or even less? Then springfield put their tag on it and the price goes up $150!!

I don't think you did to bad. I've noticed that people in the less gun friendly states tend to pay a little more (so do people that live in small towns, like me) Supply and demand.

I buy the 100rd. boxes of 230gr. Remington JHP from Wal Mart.  That's what I carry in my service model and I always practice with the ammo I carry.

Edited to add - Congratulations on your purchase.  Don't sweat paying a little more than average.  The important thing is you have the weapon you like.  Enjoy!

Nice pistol.  Congrats!

I prefer CCI Blazer aluminum because it is cheaper(usually) and cleaner than WWB.

What's with all this "waiting to pick it up" stuff?

Edit to add:

I just took mine to the range for the 1st time this weekend.  I put 200 rounds of WWB and 20 rounds of Corbon 185 grain +P through it without a hiccup.
