Took the new SIG out to the desert today and fired off about 200 rds. I say "about" .... I lost track because I was having so much fun. Decided to bypass the range and go for some jungle rules shooting instead. Blew away a few pumpkins, various boxes, bottles, old car parts, etc. Man, is this baby sweet! Smooth as silk. Has a little more kick than the CZ, but I love it! Now I'm wondering where all the extra money to buy ammo is going to come from.....hmmmmm

Knew it would and knew youd be happy, wait til you get that trigger broke in and it REALLY smooths out. Dont be afraid to dry fire, dry fire, dry fire. Sigs are able to be dry fired and all it will do is make that trigger feel like butter and get you use to the d/a trigger. Enjoy gal and after you get the hang of it, then put it to the test for accuracy, you wont be disappointed

If you are going to "consume mass quantities" of ammo, may I suggest www.georgia-arms.com as well as the 124gr FMJ Nato rounds for your shooting expeditions and 124gr JHP +P for carry. They have both and have real good prices on the 124gr FMJ Nato in 500 round cans. I have used nothing but their ammo in 9mm, .45ACP, .40cal, 5.56/.223, .30 carbine and .30-06 for at least the last 4 years with no malfunctions.

As LarryG said, do buy bulk ammo when you can. Its the only way to go if you're gonna shoot often and shoot lots. Maybe re-load? Glad you are pleased with that handgun. I love shooting out in the desert. Pure fun special if you're alone. You can just blast away at you're own pace. No rules. Pure fun if you ask me.

Pure fun is right. The range doesn't allow glass or metal targets (for obvious reasons). We found a great place with an old junked out VW van, lots of various parts here and there, boxes, bottles, pumpkins...all kinds of stuff to shoot at. Those pumpkins are pure mush now, and I love to watch the boxes and things fly when you hit them. It's quite a rush. I'll go back to the range to adjust the sites and work on accuracy, but for pure shooting fun, the desert has my vote!

next time get a case of ammo and a case of used bowling pins. don't leave till one or the other is gone. you'll be surprised how much it'll help your shooting....

It's a 228, so I can't help you out with the 220. I took it to the range the other day, and I'm still lovin' it. I'm out of practice with the pistols, but I still got some nice 2" groups with it. Even got one dead center on a 4" target at 15 yards. What a rush! Sigs rule!

Got to fire my buddy's 228 before he got transfered and you're right, they rock, but I want the bigger one. My therapist says I am making up for being short.

Just looking for info on like how often they need to be cleaned, whether there is anything you would change in the design?

I love the design. If I could only have 1 handgun (God forbid!), it would be my P220. Not much I would change about it. I'm not sure how clean it "needs" to be. I hate dirty guns so I tend to keep mine pretty clean, but I wouldnt have a doubt about slogging my through the FL swamps and it still shooting. Probably not going to try and prove that point though unless I have to!

I would say it requires normal to little maintenance. Its the one handgun I own that I really dont have to aim. I just think about where I want the bullet to go, point in that general direction, and it does the rest. Very minor recoil as well.

You're right about the shooting, got to play with a friends 220 and really liked it.

As to the cleaning, I just don't want to buy a gun that you have to clean every two mags. I keep my guns pretty clean, but the less time spent cleaning the better.

You DEFINITELY dont have to clean a P220, or any Sig, every few mags full. If the Seals can get their P226's and P220's as dirty as they do and still trust their life to them, then I dont think I'll have a problem putting 100 rounds through it and need to stop and clean it in the middle.

It's been my experience that the SIGs want to be lubricated, but other than that they'll work very dirty. We used to issue the P226 and P225 to some of our guys and they all shot higher scores than they did with other guns.

I always shoot about 200 rds through my sig when I go to the range. No problems. I always clean and oil it when I get home, but that's just me. I don't like dirt. I don't think you have to worry about the cleaning issue.
