10mm or .45 +p - AR15.COM

Time to buy a new 1911 and had my eye on a Kimber in 10mm.
But before I jump on the 10mm take a look at what I found on Cor-Bon's websight.
I don't really know if I would be getting all that much more.

depends...what are you looking for?
ft/lb really does not translate to much (as a proportionallity), but imo, disregarding costs and availability, i'd pick a 10mm for mere power, range, velocity, and overall uses, i.e.: hunting, etc

I spotted a 10mm loading on there at 767 ft lbs.

I don't think that is really that unusual for 10mm.

But 650 for .45 is SCREAMING.

They list a 500+ ft lb load for 45 GAP, SCREAMING.

I was really worked up over the 10mm for a while, but it passed. I'll stick to the .45, I think. A 230 grain bullet at 1000 is good enough for anything I need in an auto.

What ruined me on the 10mm was the S&W 629. Where's the fun in sending a 180 grain bullet at 1300 when I can shoot one at 1600 in a factory load? Besides, a 250 grain bullet at a thousand fps is enough to keep me smiling, and I can go faster if need be.

If you need more than what hot 45 loads can deliver, you need a long gun.

You gain a broken gun...Ask me and Ill tell you how a $350 Witness has cost nearly $600.

And just exactly who in Hell says it abuses the gun????????

My Colt stainless Delta Elite hasn't broken, and I daresay it never will, even on a steady diet of Double Taps!

Anything the .45 +P can do, the 10mm can do a Hell of a lot better!

P.S.- It also beats the .38 Spl, .357 MAg, .40 S&W, .44 Spl, .357 Sig, .45ACP, .45 Colt, .45 GAP, and even treads the same halls as the mighty .41 Mag!!!

I've shot hundreds and hundreds of rounds through my glock with no problems at all (and hopefully it will be thousands and thousands soon). The kick to me is the same as .45 +p out of a kimber. The great thing about a 10mm glock is I can slap in my .40 s&w barrel and that's all I have to change to shoot .40 s&w. I used to have a glock .45 and on the model 20 and 21 you can swap the slides. They are essentially the same. Now if you get a ciener 22lr conversion kit what the heck else do you need?

I havent found a NEED for .45ACP +P or 10mm for that matter, other than when I was a professional bowling pin killer. All it does is increase wear, break parts and make the gun harder to control with some loads shooting at full speed.

What are you hoping to achieve?

Why? Then you would be left with a round that has no advantage at all, those flying ashtray bullets suck compared to modern bullet designs.
