I currently have a compact 1911(Kimber Ultra-Carry).

I love it. Works well. BeaverTail saftey pokes me. when sitting and carrying IWB. A new holster would probably help. Right now it's just in a cheap Uncle Mikes. A Milt Sparks is on order but a long time away.

Just curious on the pros and cons of these 4 choices of compack 45's.
Obviously there are other options. And feel free to chime in. But I am mostly looking for opinion of these 4.

Well, I'ed go with the HK, but that prick Cruise used one in Collateral. Sig doesn't make the P245 anymore, but they do make a new compact .45, even in SA only if you want that. I wouldn't go with the Ulta Carry myself, I got to try one on for size, and it just didn't feel right, too wide, too slick.

All that aside, if your heart is set on the glock, more power to you. Otherwise, here's what I am personally going to buy:

Kahr P45

Kahr Arms

For the price of a Kimber, you could get the Kahr and a holster and probably some mags and ammo too.

Anyway, that's what I'm gonna do. But, what the fuck do I know? I make paint for a living.

Out of what you have I'd go with the G36 though.

The most important quality in a sidearm is reliability, PERIOD. A 3" 1911 is not going to be as reliable as the GLOCK.

I love the XDs. I dont really like Glocks so much.

Id carry a 36 in a second.

I would rather have a G30 over the G36 just for the round count. I carry a G30 with a IWB or a USPc with a IWB. My USP is 40 not 45, but very close to the same size. So I would vote for the G30/G36 or the HK

1911 Every time IF the barrel is 4"+

A 3" is begging for reliability issues. Based on your choices and ONLY those choices I went with the Sig.

Add another inch to that 1911 and there's no contest.

I wouldn't make a change until the Milt Sparks holster arrives. That is, if you like the Ultra Carry.

If you really don't like the 3" 1911, then I would look at the G36 first because it has no hammer or tail to poke you (which you stated was your complaint) but is still relatively thin like the single action 1911. The Sig 245 should be able to take the DAK conversion if you want to lose the hammer spur, but it won't be as compact or slim as the G36. The G30 is also an option if you don't mind it being slightly thicker.

If HK would make a P2000/SK in .45, it might change the choice but since they don't... I just don't see the point in having "the option" in the USP of carrying in condition 1 when you could just carry a 1911 in condition 1 and have a good trigger. I like the USP ergonomics but like the P2000 better and find the USP trigger to be only ok (I have owned two, so this is my reasonably informed but far far from expert opinion). To me it makes more sense to just decide how you will carry and then either get a good DA/SA or DAO, or just get the 1911 in the first place.

Take all the above with a grain of salt though - I am not great with pistols and am still learning.

Any of those pistols will do the job you want. None will be comfortable in a shitty uncle mikes IWB holster. Don't buy another gun, get a good holster and, even more importantly a good belt made by one of the holster makers, for carrying.

I have been carrying IWB for about twnety years now. I started out cheap, and was uncomfortable, but I didn't know better. Now I say, don't hang a $500-$1000 gun on a ten dollar belt and a five dollar holster. save your pennies up and buy quality, Hume Galco,Desantis,Bianchi, you will thank me.

............. while 3" 1911's can be difficult I've seen baby Glocks have teething pains as well.

The Sig P245 is one of the most comfortable .45s you can carry.

They don't make the P245 anymore, but the new P220 "Carry" model is roughly the same size with a full 7 round capacity.

Double stack .45's are too brick-like for me as a CCW since I almost always carry IWB.

3" 1911. i have a sa micro, and its reliable. any 3-4" alloy framed 1911 and a good holster will be comfortable. the desantis are very nice for the price.

hold on their buster brown.my kimber 3 inch uc is just as reliable and acurate(7 yards)at self defensive ranges as my many present and past 1911s.

I just sold off my Kimber Ultra Carry II a few months ago. I had realiability problems with it. I do own an H&K USPc 45 in Stainless and had issues with 2 of magazine springs. It is far more reliable then the little Kimber ever was, but its also twice as thick, and a little longer.

My only Glock experience is with the sub-comp 26 (9mm) and I have to admit that I choose to carry this 9/10 times over my H&Ks because of the size, capacity and comfort no matter which holster I wear.

The HK USP45c is nice and all, but I never could understand why HK's engineers couldn't squeeze at least one more round capacity into the nearly full-length grip. The Glock 30 fits nine/ten in a shorter grip than the HK. I heard HK was coming out with a 10rd flush-fitting mag last year, but it never materialized.
