Do they have to be WW2 mil-surp instead of commercial?

I take commercial, if I can't find WWII ones.

There's a slew of commercial aftermarket vendors selling mags for the P-38. Get a copy of Shotgun News or Gun List newspapers & peruse the ads for mags & you should have a nice variety of choices.

I strongly recommend the new commercial mags as their mag springs will be stronger & fresher.

Hope this helps.

IIRC, S&W M39 mags will work.  At least they used to.
