 .Seriously though, after shooting many different platforms I've come to realize that for me personally, I'm just a much better shot with a 1911. And being a pretty crappy shot to begin with, I need all the help I can get. Especially in a carry gun. Anytime I have the opportunity, I carry my Kimber Pro Tac. 3.85" gun, on full size frame. Love it, been reliable (except when I didn't realize I needed to change the recoil spring), and I shoot it better than any other gun I've tried. I've been carrying a XD subcompact, and while it is nice and light, I'm definetly not a very good shot with it. Good enough for up close, but out past 15 yards, not very good at all. And while training more would probably help, I'm starting to think maybe I should just stick with the 1911 platform, and only train with those. So, I need some honest input. Just how bad are the Springfield Micro Compacts? I've heard mixed tales, though actually more in favor of them running ok. Sometimes right out of the box, and sometimes with a short trip back to springfield. Others say they don't run even after many trips back. To steal an almost copyrighted phrase, what say you? Oh, and gun porn is of course always welcome .

IIRC, didn't you replace your HK USP with one? One of my other concerns was with recoil and the shorter grip. But again, IIRC, having shot one a few years back it wasn't that bad at all. In fact, the USP seemed to kick more. Maybe something to do with the BBL and heavier frame? |

I've had 3 diffent detonics the old ones made in washington no problems ever shot good even when dirty .

I had one (MK VI) and couldnt get it to run after numerous tries. I asked the same question a few months ago, most of them advised my Officers to be as small as I go iirc. IT is my f/t Carry gun, replaced that damn plastic G-23.  Im hard headed as hell. I still want a micro.

As my carry gun, yes. The little 3" barrel is wonderful for IWB carry & sitting down in a chair.
Not a big deal, IMO. I use 230gr FMJ ammo & while the muzzle flip is a bit more pronounced, there's certainly no worry about it being "uncomfortable" to shoot, IMO. As for the grip, I have large hands & can get all my fingers on the frame grip, something I have to have for a CCL gun. In addition, the SA has a bevel on the bottom of the MSH to prevent it from cutting into your hand. Kimber doesn't do that with their baby 1911s, which led me to buy the SA. |

Personally, I have never seen one of the tiny 1911s that was 100% reliable.

I personally have owned the following:
Kimber Ultra Carry II - bought used Springfield Micro Compact - bought used Kimber Ultra CDP - bought new Kimber Ultra Carry II - bought new I replaced the extractor on all 3 Kimbers, nothing done to the Springfield. Each and every one was 100% reliable. I've always sold them to buy something else (The money tree died) I wish I still had one or all of them. |

man, you guys are making it difficult to say no
.so if i decide to try one, anyone think their new model with light rail and light would be worth the extra bucks? i'm leaning towards it. would be nice to have the option i guess. downsides? |

I had a Kimber Ultra that ran just fine. Shot really well too. Compact CDP II replaced it though...so it went away.

i would not get a micro with a rail. only reason i use weaponlights is for the added weight. those tiny ones probably wouldnt help that much. finding a holster would be hard also, most of the holsters only fit a x200. |

I really like my Micro Compact. I am one who has had a bit of trouble with mine, but I wouldn't let that deter you. I fully expect to have mine running properly very soon, and be carrying it at least some of the time.
I am currently going through premature slidelock, and it is a bit frustrating. My latest round of working over the stock slide stop did a bit to help, but I still ended up with 6 early locks in 177 rounds this afternoon. Certainly unacceptable, and not yet suitable for carry . My current plan is to call Springfield this week. Probably order a new stock slide stop, try it out, and if it doesn't fix the problem, send it back to them to be worked on (having worked on the current stop myself, not sure if they'll honor the warranty if I send it back as is.... I may ask about that).Anyway, the little bugger is fun to shoot, and no burden to carry. It's a very nice little pistol. For now, I'll just carry the full size. |

A lot of guys say finding holsters to fit the guns with rails is a bit of a bitch. Personally, I hate the look of rails on a gun, it destroys the lines. My .o2 |

I had a 100% reliable Springer Micro OD loaded.
Sold it to help raise money for a down payment on a house  By all accounts, the Colt Defender is the best of the bunch. |

No Colt 1911s in my gun safe, basically. One of my ARs is a Colt, as is my old Police Positive .38 revolver so I have no bias against Colt. I just prefer SA. |

Ya, I did find one or two holsters that would fit it and the light. actually though, i probably wouldn't wear it with the light on, just thought it couldn't hurt to have the option. my only concern is whether or not the frame is diminsionaly any different (bigger) than a standard micro compact. that would make the holster situation, for me at least, null and void. btw, thanks for all the input guys. i think i'm going to have to bite the bullet and try one out  .

what about paras hog? Im a sig/glock type but if I was up for choosing a 1911 sytle I would go with a hog, if wiehgt is a big thing theyve got a full stainless steel version and its a compact double stack with paras new Power Claw extractor. My father has put close to 3k thru his without a single bad extraction, and its what he carries on a daily basis. 10+1 in a compact package w/o extraction issues? What else would you want in a .45?

As a carry/casual shooter the compact/micro 1911 isnt' bad. When you shoot 400+ rds a month through it. It can start to be annyoing/hard on the hand.
I sold my compact and picked up a full size for shooting I am up to 800+rds a month and the only thing hurting is my wallet. USPc now replaces the 1911c. |
