Hey guys-give me your thoughts on the Sig P229. How would you compare it to other Sigs? I mean in terms of balance, recoil, reliability, etc. Thinking of buying a Sig this spring, and I'm trying to narrow it down. I'm looking at the P229 because I may end up getting my CCW, but the P228 looks cool too. Thanks folks.

I haven't shot the 229, but I've only heard good thing. 226 and 228 in 9mm shoot wonderfully though.

I've been playing w/ the idea of a 229 in 357 sig for some time.

I have one, best buy I have ever made. Mine is in .40 accurate and reliable as hell. Recoil is very managable under rapid fire.

It’s a superb handgun in .40 or .357 SIG. It’s certainly accurate and extremely reliable, though it’s a little on the heavy side.

While it’s equally good in 9MM, to my mind it’s a little overbuilt for that caliber.

For a 9MM CCW I prefer the P228 since it’s just a bit lighter and less chunky than the P229.

Still, you can’t go wrong with either.

I have a 229 in .40. Unbelievably accurate and I shoot it so well, it's the only reason I still have a handgun in .40.
Keep in mind, the 229 is HEAVY for such a small package. The stainless slide is pretty chunky but it eats up the recoil in .40 and .357 SIG. Definitely balances differently than a 226 or 220 and feels heavier than it is due to it's small size.

If you're going 9mm, I'd look at the 228. Much lighter carbon steel slide and a little thinner. Of course for CCW, I love the Sig 239, especially in 9mm. The 239 also has a blackened stainless slide, but it is an incredibly thin package and mine was very very accurate. Most comfortable carry pistol I've ever owned. I sold it to buy the 229 and there are times I regret that decision.

229 is an excellent handgun, especially if you want a .40 or .357Sig. In 9mm, I highly reccomend the 228 over the 229. You will have to hold both of them in your hand to understand what I mean. The 228 just feels lighter and slimmer.

SIGs suck. If you have any, send them to me for proper disposal. Especially if it's a 229 in .40 cal! And if it has a rail on it, send it today so that I can immediately destroy it or else you may be in immediate danger of great bodily harm! No SIGs! Get rid of them. I am the only one professional enough to dispose of your pistol.

It's a good package for 13 rounds of .40. My personal gripe with SIGs in the last few years is that the trigger is far too heavy in double action mode, and of course I don't care for the stock sights. I've got a few year old P229 in .40, but honestly I rarely shoot it.

The 228 looks more classic, so I'd consider that if you want 9mm. It's probably my favorite SIG, except for the 225.

IMO the 229 is an Excellent all-around gun!
Very comfortable to shoot, great SD gun, and just small and light enough to carry.
Although I generally carry the 239, I do occasionally cc the 229 in 40.

I love mine in .40. It's accurate and one of my all time favorite handguns. It's a bit on the heavy side for CCW, but the de-cock carry mode is wonderful. Double action first trigger pull is not much different then auto, but it IS noticible. It's a heavy gun that allows you to stay on target in multiple-shot strings. I've also got access to a .357SIG bbl that every once in a while I swap out for grins.

The .357SIG round in it is 'abrupt', 'fast', 'quick', well..... you get the picture. I still enjoy the .40 setup much better however.

You can't go wrong IMO.

I love mine. P229R .357sig. We had a sig rep come to our Department. One day at the range shooting every sig model and calibre they currently make. Thought I had died and gone to heaven! GSR was cool too. In my opinion the 229 feels best in my hand. It holds 12 rounds same as the larger 226. Very accurate!

I've owned my 229 for years and it has the unique destiction of being the ONLY pistol I've ever owned that has never once had anything go wrong with it. I love it and in my world it would easily make the top ten best handguns anyone could own.

Nothing but praise for the P229.

If you can ever find one, a Sig 225. Some think it's the best CCW Sig ever made.

I'm still kicking myself over not buying the one that sat on wall at the local gun store for $525. They don't make them anymore and they're becoming very rare.
