A nice bluing will go a long way and it is not that expensive.  I also like NP3 nickle/teflon based finish.  I have NP3 on my Kimber and it has held up very well.

I don't even know what the bottom of the 1911 PD is but I absolutely love it.  Whatever coating is on the Scandium is amazing.  Very smooth, very easy to clean, sweat doesn't hurt it.  I love it!

Boron carbide.  Can even be applied over stainless to massively increase rust resistrance (should the finish ever be damaged).

1. Tenifer (or Melonite )
2. Hard Chrome (matte)
3. Stainless Steel
4. Moly-Resin, DuraCoat, GunCoat, whatever over a parkerized finish.
4. Parkerized
5. Blue

I would not buy a gun with a nickel finish. Too gaudy for my tastes.

Tennifer!

Although HK's hostile environment isn't bad
NP3 is good IMHO
Melonite........I'm not going to be convinced that it is as good/same thing as tennifer until I have a glock and a gun done in melonite side by side to compare and test.
Park is ok, but more prone to wearing, and less rust resistant than tennifer
