I get a lot of email reguarding the color or looks of "stainless steel" colored finishes. While I am personally not a fan of the look of SS, I know I am in the minority taste wise. So since I just refinished this slide in it I thought I'd a photo for you guys.
I have used most of the thermal and ambient cured coatings at one time or another so I ve seen the SS version from most of the coating mfg's. Unfortunately most dont really look like SS. They are usually way to bright and resemble silver spray paint not SS.
CeraKote is available in two series "C" & "H".
"H" series is a two part thermal cured coatingwith a pencil hardness of 7h, a cross cut adhesion of 5B, a heat satbility range of 525 F, & a taber abrasion of <14.0mg loss
"C" series is a single part ambient cured coating with a pencil hardness of 6h, a cross cut adhesion of 3B, & a heat satbility range of 1200 F, & a taber abrasion of <14.0mg loss
CeraKote can be applied thin enough for match grade internal parts & has a stain type feel to it when you run your hand across it. It is my personal favorite. It comes in three different shades that are close matches for SS.
Aluminum - pretty bright looks like aluminum
Stain Mag- a real close match to the Kimber & Dan Wesson.
Stainless Steel - which is about like a Colt & Ruger SS
Here are all three side by side:
