I have owned a Taurs, Springfield Armory, Ruger 9mm, and a Glock 23 40cal.  I have since sold all and am looking at getting back into a 9mm since my 1911 is getting a little expensive for paper.  What is the best 9mm for the money?

I would like to be able to shoot crap ammo with no problems and to get cheap really cheap mags

What is the answer?

Back to Glock?

FYI I want a full size

Thanks

Steyr M9's can still be had for $300.
I love mine, it's the first 9mm I ever even liked enough to buy.

The grip has about the same oviod(SP?) shape and size as the 1911 and the grip angle is like the luger, very comfortable to shoot.
The only downer is the Trapaziod sights, but they can be changed.

My 9mm collection consists of a
XD-9
CZ-P01
Glock-17L
Sig2009
and my favorite 9mm shooters are the Glock and CZ

+1 The 75B, P01, or SP01 would be great. I will pick Glock next.

Sig P226 or 226ST (stainless). The 226ST version will have a little less recoil which also makes it a Faster fun shooter.

I saw a Ruger P89 at a gun show Saturday new in box for $295.00.  Clunky, I know, but they are reliable guns. Impact Guns has them priced near that.

+1.  butt ugly but unbreakable.  its great if you want a polymer frame.  if you want a metal frame look at the p89.  i love my cz75 too.  unless you need the rail for something save your money and buy the 75 instead of the sp-01.

If you liked your G23, I don't see how you could go wrong with a G19 (my personal favorite).

If you'd prefer something that's at least a cousin to your 1911, Browning Hi-Powers are excellent SA 9mms IMHO.

+1

Sig?  Too expensive.  Nice, but expensive.
XD?  Nice, axis of bore is too high, but it's a good price
Glock?  Hate the grip angle, but the G19 is a nice, reliable, accurate 9mm
Ruger?  Clunky, reputed to be tough as a brick, but about as accurate as one, also.
Steyr?  Interesting... can't say much about 'em, haven't ever handled one or fired one.

The CZ is a great pistol.  I have a 75B in their polycoat, and it's a nice little handgun.  Just a little wider in the grip than a 1911 (slimmer grip panels should help with that), and you can go cocked and locked.  Good trigger (not great, but good), reliable and accurate.  I believe I got mine for right around $380 almost two years ago.    Definitely some bang for the buck.  Probably at least $100 less than most of the other guns listed above, if not more.

My Glocks would not shoot crappy ammo.  Had to go back to my Hi Power built by Don Williams at the Action Works to shoot the old mil surp.  Neither of my two Glocks would strike the primers hard enough to fire.  They shot "civilized" ammo all day with no problem, but I sold them because I don't want a gun that won't shoot everything.  I'll just stay with 1911s and my Hi Powers.

sig 226.  Used start at $370 at CDNN.  I got mine as a CPO for $460 shipped.  17 round mecgar mags run $20 to $22.

I bought a used 226 not long ago and love it.  I've put about a thousand rounds through it (all Blazer and some crappy reloads).  Everything shots fine.

I am just glad I am able to witness the rebirth of the wonder-nines.  During the ban I noticed people leaning to higher power but less capacity firearms, and now I am seeing new interest in 9mm’s.

CZ-75 single action!

Ambi safeties, 16 round mags that are <$20.00. Well made piece of steel.

Easy to shoot, strip, and eats anything.

You can get a full size single action, or go the small with the compact or RAMI that are DA/SA.

So have alloy frames, but I wanted a full size weapon this time.

I also own a G17, but I prefer the grip angle of the CZ's.

If you want a DA/SA, there's some smiths that do incredible triggers.

Custom holsters and grips are available.
