I carry 230gr HydroShoks, but what you should do is shoot a few of your selected loads and determine which is the most accurate in your choice of weapon.
All the quality loads have similar expansion capabilities, however they will shoot differently in your gun. Pick the one that's most accurate for you (not what someone tells you). |

o.k., you're gonna LOVE this one.
i don't carry my .45 a LOT (kimber pro-carry), but when i do carry it, i carry 230 grain ball ammo. seriously why? it WILL ABSOLUTELY,POSITIVELY feed EVERY time it's 230 grain .45 ball, for chrissakes. easier to explain in court, than "mean, dirty, exploding cop-killer bullets". in everything else, i carry hydrashoks, or speer GDHP +p+ (9mm, .40, .32 .38 ) in the .45 and .357, you can get away with not carrying expanding rounds, everything else, like i said, hydra-shok or speer gold dot, all the way. |

I have yet to see anything that performs better than the Black Hills loaded with 230 gr Gold Dots. This ammo seems to expand well in long barrels as well as the shorter ones. It expands nicely and penetrates deep. This would be my #1 pick it comes to .45 ACP defensive ammo.
But of course it always helps to have something else to look at and see. Take a peek here to see what these rounds are capable of.....www.ammolab.com/bh_45acp.htm. That looks pretty impressive to me. When you take something of .45 caliber and get it expanding up to .68, .70 or more, it doesn't get much better than that. |

What is the group's consensus on the Agilia hyper-velocity 117 grain .45 hollow point?

* Same point of impact as cheap 230 Ball ammo * Rounded ogive - will feed reliably in any gun * Decent expansion, controlled penetration * Good reputation for being a reliable stopper (I wont say it has a good "one-shot-stop" rating - what moron wants to volunteer to be the next addition to that database?) * Acceptable recoil for fast follow ups * Doesn't pound the gun like +P |

here is my opinion on the aquilla hi-q's. No formal testing but this is what i have seen.
Extreamlly light weight. This makes carry much more freindly. From my experience shooting a 1/4" thick alluminum plate at the dump.. They penetrate hard targets better than golden sabers or hydroshocks. They cut a clean hole in the plate. The others left a big dent. On softer target they seem to leave a larger hole. Soft wood left an impressive hole VS other hollow points. I know these are not "real world" tests but they do perform very well. Not to mention look at the hollow point on the bullet. The damn thing is a flying ashtray! Edited to add that due to 117gr bullet recoil is almost non existant. Allowing for VERY dast followup shots. mike |

I fired a few of these at my local indoor range. I did notice a pronounced sound difference vs standard ball ammo. I also noticed a larger muzzle flash. I have not shot any of these into anything other than paper so I can't tell about either penetration or expansion. Regards, Gary |
