Thoughts?

I've always liked going with a heavier bullet for handguns. But people seem to like the 124gr.+P.

I would be using this in my Glock CCW.

Personally I use 124 gr +p but if you used the 147 you would do fine. Many people would tell you that 147 gr penatrates deeper, if fact it only sometimes does, from the data I have seen if it does it is only slightly, really nothing to get in a fuss about. If it is a short barrel gun then use the lighter for velocity, a longer barrel and you pick.

Thanks to both of you. I have 147gr. on hand but I'll be stocking up on the 124+p.

I'm currently using 147gr (Ranger Talon) for the soft recoil and fast followup shots. Going to try some of the new 147gr DoubleTap which moves at about 1100FPS IIRC.

But I have several thousand rounds of 124gr +P Gold Dot (reclassified) for my strategic ammo reserve. I have used the 127gr +P+ Ranger Talon in the past, and that is a noisy/confidence inspiring round. :)

I've used both in the past. If I remember correctly both 124 gr and 147 gr Gold Dots make the IWBA standards. I've gone mostly with the heavier bullet for lower flash and recoil.

the heavier 147 penetrates deeper, recoils less, is quieter and expansion is similar. There is also an advantage through barriers.

What I've heard on the subject (and not saying its gospel) is that if you're expecting to use it for very close ranges like home defense etc, you're better off with the heavier round, but you'll get more expansion out of the lighter round if you're going to be shooting at targets 10 yards +.
