I don't think you can find them much anymore, but the 1927 Sistema Colts were a smoking deal back when they were being imported a few years back! Usually for less than $300 you could get a arsenal reworked and newly finished 1911A1 - that is identical in every way to actual Colt 1911A1s - built on Colt machinery, and supervised by Colt personnel (as far as I understand it).
I kick myself for only having bought two of them |
I hear you, mine is pretty lonely. The Norinco was a great deal too. Of current ones, any CZ75 framed pistol (Tan, EAA, etc) is usually a great buy. SRM |

If you download a CDNN catalog, you can find some smoking deals on police trade in Rugers, Glocks, Sigs, etc that are priced in the $240-$400 range, so any working man could afford one.

I have a Taurus model 85 Ultralite loaded with +P ammo. It's small enough to carry all the time and only cost $250. I carry other "items" in the truck, so I just need it to fight to the truck.

+1 on the Sistema Colt, but they are not readily available.
2nd choice is the Makarov 9X18, DDR or Bulgarian preferred. 3rd choice is CZ-52, a rifle dressed up as a pistol. |
Come on guys he said BUDGET and that should mean under 2 bills. Glocks are full price so are the others. Bulgarian MAKs are $129 a piece.
I do like my $220 Bersa Thunder .380 as well, great little firearm. |
Hey, FOR THE MONEY and the features, they are a bargain pistol. |

I've shot one of these. I was very impressed. R. |

Good one. I like jokes. |

But how's your bathroom? |

Anything made by Sundance Industries, Arcadia Machine & Tool, Phoenix Arms, Davis Industries, Lorcin Engineering, Bryco Arms and Raven Arms.
You didn't say they had to work..... |
Browning High Power or a Glock 17, depending on which grip works for you.
Cheap is good...with reliable function only. So far, I've had excellent results from my EAA Witness compact 10 mm and Kel-Tec P-11 9 mm. As a bonus, both are excellent at handling recoil. I would characterize the recoil from hot loads at pussy cat like.
+2 glocks are the cheapest i go |
Are we talking about value priced firearms with stopping power? Or just value priced firearms? |
Just cheap guns that make you smile. |
Okay, then I apporve of the Bersa Thunder. You also have the Makarov, the Star BM if you can find somebody with one in stock, old wheel guns can be found in places for less then $200 as well. |

I would have to say for me it is EAA witness, CZ and the .380 Bersa hands down. I do not think these guns are junk either. If a gun is reliable and accurate I consider it a good hand gun. I like my witness as much as any thing I have ever had.

Cheap and reliable Makarov. Prices from 129.00 to 150.00 average. I've got one its a Russian 1977 with probably 2K rounds though it with the only malfunction of the saftey switch spring breaking and the weapon going on safe when I didnt want it to. replaced spring and runs like a champ.
EAA Witness/CZ 75 basicly the same weapons. New price tags, middle high 2's to low 3's I've seen several Springfield Armory WWII Milspec pistols (1911A1's) new in the box at 400.00 hard to beat a 1911A1 in any flavor. They are too easy to work on and customize, parts can be had ANYWARE Sgt Bingham |
Same exact price as Glocks, $499 for XD40 5" and $499 for G22. |
Ruger P89
The trigger sucks (still better than a glock though), and it goes bang every time with no failures. Fun to shoot too. |
Budget friendly = Norinco 1911
$260 new. Reliable out of the Box. Hard Chromed barrel. Accepts all 1911 parts/mags. Too bad they can't import them any more. |
I've had several of these come through my hands and found them to be hit or miss, reliability-wise - but the "good ones" are indeed excellent values. Back in the day, Star pistols were great inexpensive pistols IMHO. +1 on the aforementioned various CZ clones, recent Steyrs, and (when they wer being imported) Norinco 1911s. |
Absolutely. |

Hey guys, when we talk budget, don't forget that the most expensive part of most guns is feeding them after you get them, so a Buckmark or Ruger Mark-whatever is your best bet here.
ETA: He also did not specify CCW or home defense. |
I was just going to say that my Ruger MKIIs are great budget handguns. And if you are on a budget, you buy 500 rounds of 22 for less than a 100 rounds of 9mm. (at Wal Mart). |
I would say a Bersa Thunder 380, Kel-tec P32 or PA3T or P11 and used quality guns.
Depends on what your planning to use it for of course... |
