Overheard at the gun shop counter that there is possibility of a 5.7x28 FN barrel going to be made for the CZ-52. Anyone heard anything about this or was this guy full of BS?

Interesting if true.

I would kinda think, the magazine would be a big problem with that conversion...they were never made to feed that small of a diameter shell case needless to say, and im not sure how it could be modified to do so reliably/and cost effective( sort of like making a .45 1911 mag feed .32acp)
so dont know how valid the story is.

why?  Might as well chamber your M1A to fire .17 zipper (or insert any other super expensive "boutique" round here).

I think its a stupid idea, whos gonna pay for a barrel to go into a cheap gun to fire one of the most expensive and hard to find ammo on the market, especially when they have very close capabilities?  A 9mm conversion would be more along the lines of practical, even if it doesnt penetrate as well.

Exactly, youd also have to modify the ejector and extractor to work on the much smaller case rim.

Sounds redundant, but don’t get me wrong, I like both calibers and wouldn’t mind more platforms for ether of them, but it sounds redundant jmo. But to answer your question, no, I know nothing.

A better result would be to make a .22 wildcate for the 7.62x25 cartrige.

Actually, isn't somebody already doing that?

Yes, Quality Cartridge .223 Timbs. 50gr SP in a .30 cal sabot at >2000fps, though I haven't chrono'd any yet. Old_Painless has a few for testing. They say it's for the CZ-52 only, but I put a box through a Tokarev with no problem.

Hmm... that's not what I'm thinking of.

Seems to me there was an actual .22 cal barrel replacemetn for the CZ52 which fires a wildcat based on the 7.62x25 cartrige necked down to .22.

Oh, right, the .22 Reed Express.

30g - 2782

33g - 2733

35g - 2721

40g - 2596

45g - 2470

50g - 2424

53g - 2362

55g - 2302

60g - *

I wouldn't mind a drop-in barrel for that little powerhouse. I'll take the 45g @2470.

Point of note, the FN Five-SeveN reports 2200FPS from a 5" barrel with a 27g bullet, the .22 Reed Express is able to push a 45g bullet at the same speed from the same length barrel.
