I like the .357 Magnum, good availability, good choice of powers and loads, relativly cheap.

.44 Magnum is a fine chambering too, but not as available or as many loads.

.22, I have always liked better out of Pistols, but it can be fun to shoot all different size .22 ammo out of a revolver.

It's a tossup (almost)-41 Maggie & 45 Colt. I was 45 Colt before 45 Colt was Cool. I also have a .445SM. Damn 357 Mag ruined my hearing back in the day when I was young and dumb (no hearing protection. Left ear will still ring when I work out a 357. The larger calibers boom more than crack, and this helps out in the hearing dept. What? Huh?

My favorite is the 45acp. That is far too good a caliber to waste on some pistol.

After the 45acp, the 39spl and then the 357Mag would be my choices.

I find that the 45acp is so manageable when shot from a revolver that it can only be described as wimpy. Guess I'm getting old, but that nice pushy recoil is a joy.

Here are a few of my Brazilian Contract 1917's.

And this is a nice, near mint, Colt New Service.

I've never gotten comfortable w/44's-it's the only gun where the recoil seems to bother me.

Thats a loaded question if I ever heard one. I guess the only ones I don't like are the .38 S&W, .32 S&W. I have little use for a .22 Magnum...(noise and price). All the rest are cool with me.

I have a couple '37 contract M17 revolvers that I am restoring as time allows. This one, I reworked to 45 Colt:

...for a big bore belly gun.

Another vote for the .44 Remington Magnum!

My 2 favorite revolvers are the Colt Anaconda and the S&W Mountain Gun.

45ACP in these. Colt 70 series,Ruger 4 5/8 Blackhawk convert.with Bisley grip,trigger and hammer and a Taurus 45ACP Tracker I just added to the stable.

44magnum, but my 357 N frame smiths are catching 357 right up.

The 44 is incredibly versitile, load light specials so even short 100# co-worker can bang away with it up to stout enough to "tear your head clean off" (and that's just from the recoil!).

But hmmmmmm the CRACK of a hot 357 load does stir the soul. Plus if I miss the target the fireball from the muzzle flash will immolate it. Blue Dot is so cool.

AG, I don't think there is space enough here to describe the conversion. LOTSA work! New extractor, re-establishing headspace for rimmed cart. (everything gets moved back @1/16" to eliminate extra headspace for moon clip), then rechambering. BTW, this gun is roundbutted. To do this on a pre 'N' frame, you have to add material in the butt BEFORE you start the roundbutting process, because you literally go through the backstap in the process. Like I said, lotsa work. You can simply round butt an 'N' frame. I had a set of S&W N RB grips fit to this frame, and I sold them, like an idiot. I'm fitting a Hogue wood grip in GA to it;

then hard chroming the whole shebang. Another one (M17/37) is rebarreld with a .965" bull barrel 4" in length. I wanted to try a 5" as well, so I made up 2 barrels from these Casull blanks. I think I'll stick with the 4 incher, as a 'pin gun' execution. I love those 5-screw frames.

Way more worK than it looKs! I guess that is one of the problems in your business, people can't see what they are getting for their money. Speaking of hard chrome, years ago a friend had a hard chrome shop and you couldn't imagine the things we would bring him to do! I learned quicKly what to "stop off", that is, parts you don't want the chrome to build up on, either with tape or special paint. A guy brought me a "K" frame once that was just done and of course it wouldn't go back together. Also the hydrogen embrittlement in the metal after the process that has to be dealt with. On your personal weapons, its a labor of love, on a customers gun, "it costs what?" At least I can understand the worK involved. Keep up the good worK!

It is mean. It's a working gun. I need to melt that KKF front sight slightly, although now it's a hand-slicer for anyone who goes for it. Speaking of work, did you read the description of the work I performed in the creation of my 357/44 B&D Blackhawk? Back in the day, I'd select an action/style platform, then transform it into something else. It's the best way to learn, and you get into the head(s) of its designer. S&W's, Colts, Rugers, and that's just revolvers. I'll get an in-process pic posted of my 4" M17/37 45 ACP. I still use Checkmate www.checkmatecustom.com/ for my plating (it's a road trip), and if anybody understands the plating process, it's Sherryl.

No...I started following that...and somewhere dropped off....damn.....did you modify the hammer on that 45 revolver?....or is it that old?....anyway..I got some bake on finish from brownells....hav`nt tried it yet but I`ll see how it works....probably a winter project...matte black.....

44 chores are handled by a DW 445 SM. I want a 444 Marlin BFG revolver. I've got the 444 in a T/C.

My 4" project, with the 6" barrel I turned out for it also, but went 4":

As I mentioned, I am going to keep the 45ACP chambering. My crane lock, to replace the one not found in the Kustom underlug:

...and the muzzle/underlug. These are the same barrel blanks I'm using on AR uppers:

I think this is a worthwhile project. It'll be fun to get all the bits and pieces together and tune.

I have to go with 44......I decided a long time ago that if there was only one cal. available to me...that would be it......for hunting mainly.......IF it was for carry..357 would be it....but I`m not a l.e.o.........
