Well, it's hard to say exactly what you like about the 1911. You say you like the grip, but then want high capacity. You're asking to go from single stack to double stack and keep the grip...not gonna happen. The Glock and 1911 are close in grip angle, but the difference between Glock and 1911 is about the same as 1911 and most others. Is it the heavy metal frame that you like?
What is most likely enabling you to shoot better with the 1911 is the straight back, single action trigger. 1911s are known for making decent shooters look good.
I would suggest:
1) Get training from a qualified instructor with a good reputation.
2) Dry fire practice with the Glock to get better with the trigger. See if dedicated dry fire improves your live fire. If so, stick with the Glock.
3) Narrow down what specifically you like about the 1911. Grip size? Metal frame/weight? Length/sight radius? Trigger?
4) Rent pistols that match what you like about the 1911. I'll hazard to say the BHP will be closest to a 1911 grip feel, frame, length. Trigger is a different story. There I'd say try a Walther PPQ, but it's not going to feel anything like a 1911 in your hand. A SAO P226 would get you the trigger too, but they're uncommon.
5) Buy the pistol you shoot the best. Do yourself a favor and ignore looks. Concentrate on how you do with it.
I'm in the "it's the Indian, not the arrow" camp (PC aside...). Work on fundamentals first; they apply to all platforms.
