I have a Glock 17 that is my bedside gun. I shoot it well, but not as well as the Ruger SR1911 I used to have. Also, not as well as the Browning Buckmark I own.

I own the Glock primarily for the reliability. I've been toying with the idea of getting another 9mm pistol that fits my hand better and, in theory, allowing me to shoot it better than the Glock 17.

Is there a 9mm high capacity pistol that is almost identical to the 1911 in terms of grip and feel?

A 1911 chambered in 9mm is not an option. I read too much about unreliability.

Thanks

I would say a CZ75 with VZ grips is slim like a 1911.  Trigger is completely different though.  David

Well, it's hard to say exactly what you like about the 1911.  You say you like the grip, but then want high capacity.  You're asking to go from single stack to double stack and keep the grip...not gonna happen.  The Glock and 1911 are close in grip angle, but the difference between Glock and 1911 is about the same as 1911 and most others.  Is it the heavy metal frame that you like?

What is most likely enabling you to shoot better with the 1911 is the straight back, single action trigger.  1911s are known for making decent shooters look good.

I would suggest:
1)  Get training from a qualified instructor with a good reputation.
2)  Dry fire practice with the Glock to get better with the trigger.  See if dedicated dry fire improves your live fire.  If so, stick with the Glock.
3)  Narrow down what specifically you like about the 1911.  Grip size?  Metal frame/weight?  Length/sight radius?  Trigger?
4)  Rent pistols that match what you like about the 1911.  I'll hazard to say the BHP will be closest to a 1911 grip feel, frame, length.  Trigger is a different story.  There I'd say try a Walther PPQ, but it's not going to feel anything like a 1911 in your hand.  A SAO P226 would get you the trigger too, but they're uncommon.
5)  Buy the pistol you shoot the best.  Do yourself a favor and ignore looks.  Concentrate on how you do with it.

I'm in the "it's the Indian, not the arrow" camp (PC aside...).  Work on fundamentals first; they apply to all platforms.

My STI Trojan 9mm has never had any problems....ever. With Tripp cobra mags it is 10 plus 1. It is the best shooting firearm I have ever owned.

Beretta Vertec. Basically a M9/92 pistol with a grip that replicates the grip if a 1911.

CZ 75 SP01. I'm a 1911 guy all the way and can go back and forth between my CZ and 1911's with no issues. I love the DA/SA.  I have the Shadow Target model and it puts every trigger on any gun I have ever shot to shame.

I say instead of thinking about buying a new pistol, spend the money you would spend on a new gun and buy ammo for the glock. THen shoot that ammo and I bet you will be shooting the glock as well as anything.

Not so much feel as grip angle is the problem when I shoot Glocks.

If you want a Hi Cap 9mm that mirrors the grip angle of a 1911 I suggest you try the CZ75, M&P, and the XD/XDM.

The only one of those with the same potential for a trigger is the CZ75 (SA only version)

I don't quite understand how getting another gun will solve your problems.  You've mentioned that you shoot both guns well, why not invest time into more ammo and training?  It'll put you on another level.

That said, if another gun is a must 1911 users tend to really enjoy M&P's with thumb safeties.

I agree with BuddyChryst and I am not here to steer you away from the 1911 or the Glock.

You say that you shoot the 1911 better than the Glock but I doubt your issue is the frame size.  I own both a 1911 and a Glock, and I do shoot the 1911 better but that is because I have spent way more time shooting the 1911.

The Glock trigger takes some work to get familiar with it.  If you want a 1911 then go for it but I think you would be better served spending the money on ammo and a reputable trainer than switching guns.

THIS.  With the think VZ grips the grip circumfrence is almost identical to a 1911 (I personally think it feels better).  As for trigger, with some work a CZ75 can have an outstanding trigger.

Original Springfield XD, CZ75, and Beretta Vertec are all excellent options.  Might add the CZ P07 to the list.  My personal recommendations would be a de-cock only Vertec.  Wonderful guns!

I like the looks of the P-09.

Never paid attention to them before.

Now on my list to check out and see if a local range rents them.

I think Jeff Coopers love of the CZ-75 pistols says it all.
Nothing is going to be like a 1911 but if that's what you shoot well then there are several good choices.
A cocked and locked SP-01 is my nightstand pistol.  I've been carrying a Glock 19 due to it being the ideal weigh size and capacity.  I admit that I don't shoot it nearly as well.   18+1 capacity and  Sig 210 like accuracy

My CZ P-01 with VZ Diamondback grips is thinner than my Springfield 1911 with original Cocobolo grips according to my nice digital calipers!

The double action pull on my P-01 that has only been shot about a thousand times is actually pretty nice. The single action pull is damned nice and seems to improve every 500 rounds or so. My CZ is certainly thinner in the grip than my 1911...

Concur with not at all like a 1911, grips are much larger.

I really only shoot 1911/2011, but an M&P 9 with a new trigger or a CZ feel really good.
