Aren't GLOCKS great.

Which of your 1911s are you going to put through the same tests?

This is believable  because you are reputable.  I like what I am hearing.

Hey partner, better you than me.   I wouldnt do that test on any pistol I've gotta pay for.   You do realize of course you're gonna make a $400 gun into a $100 gun?

Its all been done already, I'm just going to keep track this time. Heres a pic after around 15K rounds with no cleaning, and being buried in mud etc...
The barrel fouling was amazing, it was basically a smooth bore.

That gun needs some TLC! (and some CLP).

That said it doesn't look that bad, all things considering.

I'd vote for Springfield Professional Model.

I bought a Glock 17, and took it straight out of the box.  This means no cleaning or lubing at any time.

I fired the pistol over one thousand times over the course of a few weeks without any incident using four different types of ammunition.  I shot the pistol in the rain, in the desert and in the cold.  I did not put any oil to protect the finish, and had no damage to it.

The G17 is the way a pistol should come from the factory.

You didn't mention putting it in the hole of a Port-A-Pottie.  Sloshing around in piss and shit should be a good test.  Be sure to let someone else shoot it after you take it out though!

I think when Chuck Taylor was trying to come up with every way in the world to test a Glock 17 he got it in his head to shove it into a pile of cow poop. WTF that was supposed to prove I have no idea.

I don't think anything you do to a Glock is going to have any affect unless you get some rust in the springs-well other than eventually I bet you'll break the front sight off.

Now that you mention it, that was in a gun magazine article a few years ago, wasn't it?

I'd bet a ww2 model springfield with the OD coating would fare very well.   It'd just look ugly afterwards.

Glock the uber pistol! Just don't catch your coat's zipper in the trigger/guard area when you are trying to quickly re-holster it so you can engage the remaining targets with your slung rifle. Not that anyone I know around here would do anything like that

They are hell-for-tough pistols though, and as much as it gives me chest pains to admit, are probably (gasp) more reliable than an average out-of-the-box 1911. The shooting advantages of the safe-action trigger are also it Achilles heel. Maybe it is because so many police agencies are using Glocks, that you hear of so many ADs.

ALTHOUGH I did see a Glock .40 jam during a practical pistol shoot last Wednesday night. My Springfield TRP (hey, it only retails for $1500) never skipped a beat and turned in the best scores of the night. (I had a lucky night )

I wouldn't have the stones to abuse my 1911s like bigbore

Not sure if he was using reloads. Maybe. He (a cop, I think) was actually one of the better shooters. His accuracy was pretty close to mind, his time was slower on both runs, the one run by a few seconds primarily because of the jam he had to clear, and also because he forgot to change mags between stations and ran dry where he shouldn't have. Whoops. Many of the shooters were quite inexperienced.

I sent you an email about details of the match. Every Wednesday night.

As to the rifle, well hell, after you were missing the 9" plate at 10 yards, do you REALLY think you could have hit the bowling pins at 50 yards with your Grock?

Anyway in that case a Glock's really not any different than a revolver anyway. I wouldn't want to have reholstered my S&W .38 with the tab of my zipper in the trigger guard either.

The Glock has a FAR shorter trigger pull than a DA revolver, and in many cases a much lighter pull. A better analogy here is a revolver's trigger pull with the hammer cocked, I think.

Yep, gotta keep that trigger finger under control, but those damned pesky zippers need to be better trained as well.  Good thing you were  paying attention to details.

At a recent tactical pistol course I attended, the instructor's (Giles Stock) favorite pistols were 1911s and Glocks. However, he also stressed that 1911s, especially cheap ones, aren't as likely to run as well as a Glock out of the box.

BTW, Giles is fond of these 2 pistols largely because of their triggers. Fast reset and easy to shoot fast and accurately. No argument from me.

I don't think that raw sewage is even close to sand when it comes to torture testing a firearm.  Liquid is liquid.  I routinely drop my Glocks(19 & 26) in the sand (because that's what's around my range) while performing "New York reloads".  Never had a malf as a result.

Quoted:He knows that What he's talking about is last Saturday we were shooting and firing with a pistol then transitioning to a rifle. Anyway I fired my glock and was reholstering it in a IWB holster when the brass tab on the zipper on my carhart jacket got into the trigger guard between the trigger and the guard. I don't know that the gun would have fired if I had shoved it in there without looking, but that's a danger with a Glock that would have been almost impossible with a 1911 or 92.

Why would it have been impossible with a 92?

You might want to measure how low I was shooting and where that would fall below the chest and determine whether there's anything down there that you might miss...

If we find someone who has one you might want to try an XD, they have a grip safety and the grip angle is closer to a 1911. I thought about getting one but I already have all the magazines holsters blah blah for my glocks.

Oh man, penguin, you "kill" me....my keyboard is thankful I'm not drinking anything right now

Eric has an XD .40. I've shot it once. Not a bad pistol.

Excellent!

A couple of thoughts:

1) I have a spread sheet that I use to document my G17s history.  If you are interested I can send it to you.  I have plans to create a PockePC application if you or anyone else is interested.

2) The same test(s) needs to be performed on another or a couple other types of handguns.  Maybe a H&K or a Sig and a 1911.  I know Larry Vickers did a similar test a number of years ago but the history of your G21 is simily amazing so I think you'll have a much different result

Here's another test: gather up dubb-1, Eric and a few other employees and just go out and run a case through it as fast as you all can.  Rotate shooters every few mags to give everyone a chance to reload and see how hot you can get it and to see how many FTF/FTE you have in that 1000 rounds.  See how:

- Fast you can put a 1000 rounds through it
- How how it will get
- How many failures during that time

Like I said earlier, it would be nice to see a different pistol being subjected to this kind of punishment
