A while back I decided I wanted a single action revolver in either .44 mag or .45 LC.  I put the Ruger Super Blackhawk on my Xmas list and the g/f ordered me one.  I'm still waiting for it to come in.  Waiting very impatiently...

Does anyone have experience with these?  What are your thoughts?

I have one that I bought new in 1978 for about $150, it's the only revolver I've kept over the years.
VERY accurate, great trigger, built like a tank.  The old style grips handle the recoil well since the pistol tends to just rotate up in your hand a little instead of hammering you.  If they still make them as well now as they did then I think you'll enjoy it.

I can't wait to get my hands on it.  Hell, I even had a dream about it last night.

My grandfather claims that him and his buddies just bought up some of the last Super BlackHawk Hunters. Is this true or not? His version came in stainless in 45LC.

However, I have shot his piece and it IS WONDERFUL! Everything about it is excellent. The only problem is that ammo runs about $20, for 50 rounds, way too much for plinking.

Powerful and accurate!  I hit watermelons at 100yds with my dads consistently.  In .44magnum your hands will hurt the next day, also shitty grip.  It's a decent hunting gun though.

What is the barrel length of the SBH you have ordered?

Took a whitetail out at 85 yards with my .44 Super Blackhawk Hunter with 2.5 x 7 Leopold - Great Gun, bought my used, sent it to Magnaport for Kelly's handy work.. He turned it into a Semi Stalker!
Good out to 125 yards.  You can also tame it down by shooting .44 Specials.
Seems I recall one for sale in the Handguns for sale forum.  Good luck and Enjoy your getting a good gun and you already have a GREAT GIRL friend!

I decided on the 5.5" barrel.  I like the looks of the 4 5/8" barrel better, but I figured the 5.5" would be better for the cartridge.

I also want one in .30 carbine to compliment my m1 carbine.  Probably go with the shorter barrel for that one.
