Ok the 500 S&W is well established as a incredible handgun round.  So, with the 460 S&W Magnum coming out what would you choose, the 460 or 500?  My dream deer gun for PA would be a 500S&W in a Marlin guide gun.  But, it seems as if this may not happen so my thinking is that the 460 stands a better chance of making it into a lever gun in the future.  A nerdy want of mine is to have a pistol and rifle combo chambered for the same butt-kicking round.

Not much stats are availible yet but so far I see that the 460 pushes a 200 grain bullet at 2300fps and 2100 with a 300 grain bullet.  The latter coming from an Encore though.  The 500 will push a 325 grainer at 1800fps.

Anything else?  Should I just get a 45-70 Guide gun and call it a day?  I already have three 454s, Freedom Arms, Ruger, and Taurus.

Edited for grammar, to many beers.

What about the Colt Anaconda .44 mag?

If I owned a revolver that would be it...

Go for the already established 500.

But will the 500 ever make into a lever action?  And why didn't they just neck down the 500, that would be a sure bruiser and be very very close to reaching 45-70 balistics.  Maybe they wanted the option of using 45 Colt and 454s in the 460, the added versatility may sell some more guns.

Someone is going to neck down a 500 into a 45 and stuff that cylinder into a 460.  That would be a beast.  I'm in if so.

A big +1.  Ballistics are great.

Wait until someone comes out with a real mans handgun chambered in 20mm.  Until then I guess you'll have to settle for the .500 S&W mag.

Did you ever price ammo for that shit? I have a .44 Anaconda and that is good enough for me. Just my opinion. What are you going to use it for? BTW, I have a Guide Gun also and that thing is way fun to shoot  Later,  Terry

Lol, price of ammo is not really a big deal as I don't shoot all that much.  I just WANT it!!!

BTW I have a stainless 45-70 Guide gun and a limited edition Marlin 1895 with 16in octagon barrel in 45-70 as well.  But I want MORE! Well at least more to spend money on.......

Edited cause I'm dirkin again.

Why not get the .450 Marlin? You can get the BFR in .450 Marlin with 45/70 Govt. conversion cylinder (Magnum Research Ballistics). Then you could get the .450 Marlin ,well, in the Marlin (Marlin 450). The 450 swallows the 500sw in speed and energy. If you can't tell I've been thinking about getting this combo. Plus the 45/70 conversion allows cheaper handgun practice. Just a suggestion.

Not a S&W fan, ever since the British owned it.  NOVEMBER ALPHA TANGO OSCAR sucks.
