Keep in mind i've only shot .40 and .45, my pistol is a .45 but my cousin rented a 9. Jesus, I felt like I was shooting a loud airsoft gun. It was a Ruger. I guess there is a HUGE difference when you shoot a 9 then you go shoot a .45 a few seconds later, but damn! I had to give my cousin shit too, cause he bought a 100 round box of WWB 9's from Wal-Mart, I had 100 round box of WWB .45 and his was about 1/4 the size of mine. The box is so tiny! When we were at the range I got one of each of our brass and I told him "look at this, This is yours, and THIS is mine" and I took his 9 brass and set in inside my .45. I was planning on buying 9's from now on just becuase the ammo is half the cost of .45, but after today I just don't know. I like having my guns kick. |
just remember most including myself can shoot a 9mm much faster than a 45. If you want kick carry a snub nosed 44 mag like a 3" S&W M29.
I shot it fast and accurate, and I could realign my sight a lot faster with a 9, but it wasn't much faster than my .45.
Just remember that when your standing at high noon on main street faced with the proverbial bad guy. You've got your .45 and you look over and see....he's a got a wonder nine....uh oh you think to yourself, I know I'm faster with the nine myself; how fast is this guy???? And thats when the old man throws his hat into the middle signifying DRAW!!!
Ok ok so the above doesn't seem probable. I prefer my SA 1911 .45acp as well over my XD 9mm. For pure shooting pleasure yes the .45 is hoot with a big heavy slow slug coming out, especially over the popcorn 9mike mike. Just remember everything has its place. PS I still prefer my S&W .357 wheelgun to anything else I've shot |
hmm my 9mm bucks more in my hand than my 45 but I am sure that has to do with the narrower grip of the G17 than the G21 I like 45s but I will shoot alot more 9mm because 9 is 1/2 the price of 45 so I can shoot 200 rounds for the price of 100

I forgot to mention that my gun is a Kimber TLE/RL for reference
Thanks. I think I made a wise decision, especially seeing as how this is my first gun. |
I found Rugers come to "life" with hot 9MM loads, the hotter the better.
Wal-Mart white box are nowhere near +P or +P+, which are expensive, but should be tried just to compare what a 9MM "could" be. |
Honestly, from the very few times I've looked down the barrel of a gun, they all looked like 500 magnums. |
Thats why I love my MK23
Power of the .45 with the recoil/speed of a 9mm. The thing kicks like my Beretta 92. |
So you're comparing a Ruger 9mm to a Kimber TLE .45? Apples and oranges dude. To quote another member on the board to say you don't like 9mm because you fired it in a Ruger is like saying "I don't like Lorcin's because I rented one the other day". If you're used to a "tuned" (albeit at the factory) Kimber, try a tuned SA1911 or Browning Hi-Power in 9mm.

I took 1st place in an IPSC "Speed Match" using a lowly H&K P7(9mm). About 25 other competitors all used custom 1911s. I showed them a thing or two about the NINE.

recoil does NOT impress bad guys.
tissue damage does. never forget that. |
That don't kick too much with the muzzle brake in place. Take it off, and then you'll have something... (Disclaimer: Highly inadvisable and potentially dangerous, but possible.) |

Kev, remeber awhile back when everyone was calling you a troll and that you were just trying to make trouble? Well I sure do. Guess what? Now, you got yourself a better gun than half of the people who were calling you names and stuff. It must feel great . *************************************** I understand the position of being tramped on by people who do not take you seriously, happens to me all of the time because of my age. Thanks for AR-15 Forum and the people here, I know more about guns than most of the people who push me away at the range.
I used to not care for the 9mm very much, but as soon as I started shooting in "fun shoots" at our local range, the value of the 9mm really does shine. A 9mm can pop a balloon just as easily as my .40 or your .45 and they can pop them a heck of alot faster too. I still stick with a .40 S&W, because my only other choice is a WWI Luger (9mm) or my younger brothers Beretta 96 Vertec (.40). Its alot of fun, but those folks with 9's do not need to extra power to punch balloons and paper and flimsy steel. Have fun and be safe! Not sure of the gun laws where you live but that comment probably is better left unsaid! Thank you! My range still lets me use it and everything. Hmmm........... |
Yeah that was me!!!! I was the jack ass who was giving him a hard time!! It was all in good fun though and I think Kevin understands this. Most of us here have pretty thick skin and a good sense of humor. |

+1 My P89 loves 9mm+P+ loads. And kick hard with them. Guy asked me(without seeing the gun) if I was fireing a 357 magnum. You should have seen his face when I said no, its a 9mm. But yes. I am more a 45 fan. |
If you get hit by either one of those rounds you are in a world of hurt. I love my .45, but my CZ75 9mm is definitely to be taken seriously.
I noticed the same thing when I took my USP45F to the range and rented a USP9mm compact. I fired off about 150rounds through the 45, then fired about 2 mags through the 9mm. Normally I'm able to feel a little bit of recoil from the 9mm, but I felt the same thing you did that time. Just a big cap gun.
Just remember, a normal 9mm holds between 12 and 17 rounds, your 1911 holds seven.
I would hope to god that 7 rounds is enough in any given situation, but i want every advantage i can get, so i carry 15+1. Having 61 rounds ready to rock is a much better feeling compared to having around twenty imo. |
Wow! You sound like a real asshat to go shooting with!!
I wonder if your cousin had any fun at all? I seriously doubt it. |
Well he and I and most others have what is called a "sense of humor", research it, develop it and then when you're ready remove the stick from your ass... |
Dude! Get your finger off the trigger! Rookie! btw - I'm really digging my new Kimber and the big .45 round too |
Well, the way your post is typed, you sounded pretty serious. |
I am holding it properly. You only put your finger on the trigger when you're ready to shoot
Great. Another "Darwin Award" candidate makes a grand appearance here at ARFCOM. R |
and makes shooting the kimber feel like a water gun. ahhh the single gun owner snob ... i just got my first gun and it's the best gun ever made.
According to many, it is one of the best guns ever made. |
Hey, it's a free county. Everyone has the right to be wrong from time to time... Even folks that think Kimber's are one of the best guns ever made! |

If I was your cousin, I'd offer to shoot your ass with that 9 then see if you still had that shiteating grin on your face.
I just can't see how the ideology of 'recoil is good' is beneficial in ANY way. On that note, if a 9mm sucks and is for girlie men just because of its recoil, then I'm sure you would agree with the statement that AR15's and AK74's suck because they have very little recoil also -- What REAL man would use anything less than a FAL anyways?
This is what REAL men shoot: |

LOL! It's a 20mm Lahti, and I posted in the spirit of the "bigger is better" theme that this thread has taken.
More at this website, www.thegunzone.com/people/lahti.html |

I never have shot a 9mm before, i have shot a .45 and i loved it. I have heard that some 9mm's recoil more than a .45
Big Bear,
You shoulda shot the car with the Lahti! I woulda loved to see a shot to the engine block! R |
I've shot pistols from .17 to .44 (no 500 yet) and to be honest I've enjoyed them all to some extent. As long as they go "Bang" someone will enjoy/use them no matter what caliber or recoil they possess.

At my class last week I shot every bit as fast as the guys with the 9mms.
If only my 1911 was a 9mm! Now that would be fast a fast controlled pair. |
