I thought a .40SW is almost a +P to start with.
I don't know forsure but that is what I thought.

Well I don't know if the .40S&W ia already considered +P or not but I can say that most, if not all current .40 guns couldn't handle a hotter round. Reason being is most .40 are actually 9mm guns converted to shoot .40. This, IMO, is why you generally see a higher failure rate in .40 guns over their equivalent 9mm brothers (G17/19 vs G22/23 - XD9 vs XD40, etc)

Just my $.02

Because theres no SAAMI spec for .40, without a SAAMI spec you can't say its +P (which means above SAMMI pressures).  I think Cor-Bon does or used to list a +P round for it but it was pure marketing to list it that way.

40 S&W is already loaded around 33,000 PSI in many cases.  For example, .38 special +p is only producing around 20,000 and .45 ACP even less.  9mm starts around 30,000 and +p I would think is around 33-35000.  It's unlikely one of those firearms with non-fully supported chambers could use a .40 S&W that would make 35,000+ psi and still stay in 1 piece.  KABOOM!  Don't be surprised to see a 40 S&W +P in a few years though.  MJD

didn't realize saami hadn't specced it yet.  that would explain it.
