Would you buy one, and use it as a primary weapon for self defense. Why. (I am considering getting one - the caliber has always intrigued me).

Its probably the most terminally effective round to fit in a small handgun. Small handguns arent my thing, and I would rather have a .45 or 10mm, but thats just me.

Yes I would, yes I do.

Springfield XD-357.

I own .45's, which I'd bet all the "no's" prefer, but my primary defensive weapon is a 357sig.

I used to own 2. A Glock 31 and a Glock 33, but I got rid of the 31 and the 33 is for sale. I really like the caliber but, I don't reload anymore, so ammo costs were killing me. I still think the 357 Sig is a great round. I went to using +p+ 9mm rounds for fast ammo and back to a Glock 21 45 acp for the big and slow--but very effective. When 357 sig gets more affordibly priced I'll probably pick up a 229 DAK.

Considering that I can get a P229 from CDNN for $400, yeah, I will get one.  But I prefer 9mm.

Yes. I have reached the point where I carry my G32 more than my 1911 guns and have mucho faith in the cartridge. This cartridge is field proven many times over. I do not reload either .40 or .357Sig but I find that .357Sig in bulk is not much, if any more expensive than .40.

Id get one, but not a carry gun

I have an XD-40 and I got a 357 sig conversion barrel.  You get to shoot the cheaper 40 round, and get to have fun with 357 when you want to.

Yes and I do already own a SIGPRO 2340, I also had a Glock 32 but I sold it to get a Glock 34 for IDPA use.  If I get another 357SIG it'll probably be a G31 or SIG 226ST.

yeah, but i'd make sure it wasn't tiny.  the muzzle blast from my buddy's baby glock was concussive.  a g32? (g23 size) i shot was nice though.  ballistics are outstanding.  i'd like a g35 chambered for 1!

No.  Ammo I've seen is dominated by light, fast bullets.
I'll take 9mm in a small handgun, .45 ACP in a large one.

Thanks for posting that picture. I used to be in denial about all handguns being equally weak. After viewing that gelatin, everything looks far more similar than it does significantly different. Also, I never really gather too much from gelatin tests. How much penetration do you need for a brainbox hit? Too many variables are involved in a gun shot wound to trust data from a slab of gelatin. I am talking about human beings of course. YMMV

Yes, it is alot more fun than the .40.

I have it in a SIG229 and I would like to get it in a lighter pistol, maybe an XD.

I use a .357Sig USP for my carry gun most of the time. Recoil has some zip to the slide speed so I suggest you shoot one before you buy one.

My .o2

No, but I might get a conversion barrel (for my G35) just to give it a go.  I really like the idea of a cartridge that short pushing .357mag ballistics, but my G29 pushes .41mag ballistics so I think I'll stick with it for a CCW.
