I am not posting this as a 1911 vs Glock thread, so don't take it as such.  Over the last year I have been observing the failures at the local IDPA matches along with everyone else.  Nothing scientific, just casual.  Sometimes I will go weeks without shooting a match, and sometimes time will allow me to get 3 or 4 in a month.

With the exception of an occasional sig, beretta, or yesterday some new xd's, everyone shoots glocks or 1911 style pistols.  I always make a mental note when a shooter has a gun(not shooter) malfunction and most of the time the glocks win the failures race.  Yesterday however there was only one malfunctioning 1911 that didn't run right all day.

Why no glock failures yesterday?  Nationals were this weekend and the guys that fiddle with their glocks to make them sweeter shooters were gone.  Most of the glock shooters yesterday I would bet are pure stock.

Just my $.02

I would also so there is a connection to 1911's that are either not correctly fitted or have also been fiddled with.

Make note that most production 1911's today are not propperly fitted.  Most have too tight frame to slide fit which does nothing to make it accurate.  Barrel fit is what makes a 1911 shoot, A 1911 should have a little slop in the slide to frame fit... that is what makes them work. I have a 1918 build Colt that was carried by a great uncle..  This gun was built to JMB's specs and I have never had a failure while using good colt mags.

If you have a correctly built 1911 it is as dependable as any other weapon, inc Glock

Most of the problems that I see at IDPA matches are a result of faulty magazines or use of improper reloads.  I usually talk to the guys afterwards to learn what happened.  It's an across the board thing and from what I'm seeing doesn't correlate to Glocks, 1911's or any other pistol.   But.........that's in my own small part of the world.

This too is in my own small little world.  Most of the glocks shoot factory 9mm and most of the 1911 guys reload including the esp 9mm guys.

One small match viewed by a casual observer does not mean spit in the ocean, but it got me to thinking.  I would speculate a good portion of the glock failures I witness in the past are enhancement induced.  Certainly not conclusive but follows the same pattern that some have mentioned that are not so casual and see far more rounds go down range than I.

Rambosky   I usually call it the glock vs 1911 failure race because out of 20 -35 shooters, there may only be one other make of gun represented.

My observations are that it is extremely rare to see an unmodified Glock fail using factory loaded ammo.  Out of the box, they are among the most reliable auto pistols available.

Odd, we've all seen photos of "Blown-Up" Glocks.

Cornbread hasn't posted on this yet? I am amazed.

Usually that guy knows about any thread anywhere that every questions Glock. It's like he can sense a disturbance in the Glock force.....
