I just transitioned from carrying a Glock to a 1911. I carry 8 round Wilson mags, and my question is, Do you normally load the 8 rounds then cycle? Or do you guys 8+1? The only reason I ask, is because with the 8+1, the mag seems more difficult to load into the well (for obvious reasons) and I'm concerned about the possibility of a failure to feed after the first round is fired.

I normally carry 7+1 in my SW1911 with 8 rd Wilsons.  Never had any problems whatsoever, but I can't absolutely say that is the reason.  Its just my personal preference.

1) Lock slide back
2) Insert fully loaded magazine
3) Pull slide back to disengage lock and release
4) engage safety
5) remove magazine
6)holster pistol
7) Top off magazine
8) take pistol from holster
9) insert now fully loaded magazine into pistol
10) reholster pistol

You now have 8+1.

8+1... unless the pistol is malfunctioning it should give you no problems... its normal for the fully loaded mag to be a little "stiffer" going in when a round is chambered. my SW1911 did the same thing.
