What, in your opinion, is the absolute best ever made 9mm pistol in regards to being absolutely reliable, trustworthy, and functional.

Lets go for some reality... if you had only one 9mm pistol to fight off the zombies, what would it be?  And since we are fighting zombies we have to remember we will be dragging it through the mud, blood, dirt, and zombie guts.

Glock?  Sig?  Beretta?  S&W?  XD?  Something else?

My favorite 9mm is my Jericho 941FB. Something about the way it shoots, its just controllable, pointable, and compact. Next up would probably be a HK USP Compact, followed by the glock19.

Ruger P89.

Now where is my Flame suit???  I have fired the Beretta, the HK, the Sig, the Walther, the Glock.

The accuracy and reliability of my $350 Ruger P89 has been equal or better to any of the above.

Its not very pretty, and it only fits the hand after Hogue grips are put on.  But damnit it works, it works hard, and it has never failed me.  I have TRIED to jam it. Got 4000+ rounds now through it. I've gone about 1200 rounds now without even cleaning it, still working like a charm.  Fired lots of +P+ ammo in it.  No problem.

If I had to run in the gun shop and grab one pistol to hit the treeline with, it'd be a Glock 17.  Right out of the box, nothing can touch it for extreme reliability with ALL types of ammunition.

EDIT:  And WTF is up with the graph code?

Admittedly, it's one beautiful piece of engineering.  Seems a little fragile for sh*t-storm type situations, though, huh?  Lots of parts and tight tolerances don't really equate to longetivity under abuse.

I still want one, though!

The Browning Hi-Power:  It was the first service pistol I had to qualify on (Ingram version).  Only issue is whether it's safe to carry with the hammer up on a loaded chamber (Condition 1).  I am not alone in this concern.  The IDF spends a lot of time training its personnel in a special draw method to chamber a round due to this issue.  That said, given all the options, the IDF still prefers the pistol to the many alternatives.  Once you deal with this issue, it is a dead reliable pistol that aims naturally and functions and is serviceable in almost any environment.

Of the ones on the list provided, I chose the Sig 226.  I am in good company there.  A lot of functional/design similarity to the Hi Power modified to a DA shooter, and I like it better than the HP DA version.  DA eliminates the condition 1 issue and the Sig trigger is probably the best DA trigger I know of out of the box.  The Sig 229 is nice too, and a little better for CCW.

One of the best shooters I have ever known will not give up his Sig 210 but it is a better match pistol IMHO, then a modern service weapon.

No matter how hard I try to appreciate the Glock, and the Glock evangelists won't give up trying to convert me, I just do not like the feel of the weapon.  Look - I understand the mechanics and design, and understand that they don't rust - goodie for you!

The HK is nice, but I have found the Sig to be more reliable, abuseable, and serviceable, all at much lower cost.

I won't say much about the Beretta.  It's a good pistol, I just don't consider it in the same class as the others.  Neither does USSOCOM evidently, so again, I am in good company.

since you said RELIABILITY, and FUNCTIONALITY.

Its gotta be the USP.  All the reliability of the glock, but a much more user friendly setup.  More standardized setup.  Grip angle isn't so drastically different that it makes the gun point upward, and the trigger...albiet not the best, but hey, it isn't a glock trigger.

I'm not a glock fan, but I do respect what they can do.  Not a flame at all up there, just my personal preference.

Frankly, I'd feel damn good with ANY 9mm handgun on the poll.  They all are excellent firearms.

I would have to go with a Glock 17 for me. I think its a near perfect gun. One thing I look at is availability of extra mags. If I am fighting off thousands of Zombies then I would have to assume everyone else is,  and in a SHTF scenario the availability of extra, reliable mags is very important. I don't think you would have any problems finding extra 9mm Glock mags anywhere.......can't wait till the sunset to buy some new, Glock factory 15 and 17 rounders for my babies........
