Which mass produced factory maker of 1911's has the biggest following here?
For you "Top shelf" guys Custom/Semi-custom Makes here |
I currently have 2 Kimbers. However, I regret selling my 2 Colts. I have learned the hard way never sell a gun, especially a 1911. I will always carry a Kimber, but there is just something about a Colt.
I had a Springfield Armory, a Colt 1991 stainless and aColt Commander stainless. I don't miss them. I will never sell my Kimber. I have a S&W and Sig 1911 on the shopping list......
A Springfield, two Para-Ordnance high caps, a Remington-Rand, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Three SA's for me, two full size and one ultra compact...I'm looking toward another full size in the near future, I'm thinking along the lines of a black stainless or maybe an operator...
Colt and SA. Favorite by far is the Springfield Armory. The Commander is nice but has nasty sharp edges.
2 , Kimber series 1 stainless and a new Para LTC lightweight that is quickly becoming the love of my gun life .. super little canadian gun go figure and my wilson 47D's run fine in it
Kimber and Colt.
Ponies and Yonkers can get along in the same collection. |
Colt
SA ( put a bunch of COLT parts in it and now it works GREAT ) |
Gets ya to thinking about how many Makers of 1911 there are!
30 yrs ago it was just COLT! |
My trusty SA "sprouted" enough Colt parts in the last 10 years...also a SS Gold Cup & a SS 1991A1.
And some other 1911's are always traded back & forth, so I don't count the "temporary" ones. |
Springer frame with Essex slide and Wilson Barrel....what mines not listed?
Kimber, but I should have a Springfield to keep it company real soon.
Springfield Champion Loaded. .......I do love that pistol as my carry gun.
+1 Essex Frame with Sarco Kit installed. Basic Mil-Spec. 1911a1 with some 1911 type parts thrown in for good measure. |
springfield
made in 1917 kept grandpa alive kept his dad alive rattles when you shake it still hits milk jugs at 50 yds |
Well, I currently have 4 of the 5 in your poll. Would have bought a GSR, but the one I looked at was way too poorly put together for a $950 gun, so I bought a Kimber Team Match II that day, instead.
As far as custom 1911's, I have a couple of those, too. None are stock items from the major builders; all are custom to my specs from top local guys. |
co....col.......dang, I can't say it.
in the market for more, though. |
Uhhh.... Where's the NORINCO choice? The most reliable 1911 of recent times.
Colt 1911 made in 1918 or 1917 not sure. A ORM 1991 Gov, and a NRM 1991 Commander.
And a Python that was my dad's and a 1908 in .380 |
just sold my lw p-14 too big to carry all the time. every round i shot through it was a round i could have been putting through my g23, which i DO carry every day. practice makes permanent. they're just "clunky" if i get another .45 it'll be a single stack, which is ironic because i paid a lot for my hicap mags during the ban. |
(2) Springfields (1) Kimber.................I see another Kimber in the near future.......and maybe a Para LTC
Colt 1991A1. Man I love that pistol. Had some trigger work done on it. It will now remain in my life forever!
I only paid $300 for it new - quite a deal I'd say. |
Colt, only because I got one HELL of a deal on a 1943-manufactured ex-GI 1911a1
Otherwise I probably would have just saved up and either a) built one myself or b) bought a kimber |
two springfields, milspec & lt.wt. loaded {carry gun} nm # milspec shoots better than any colt i have owned. been into 1911's since 1976.
