awesome little gun.  Mine has about 200 rounds and so far no problems.  Kel-tec has a winner here.  I brought 120 rounds to the range the other day with the idea of testing the accuracy of the gun.  But It didn't work out, I was having too much fun with it to give it any kind of accuracy test.  Needless to say the 120 rounds didn't last long.

I did get it sighted in at about 50 yards though.  With a good scope I imagine the PLR could get descent accuracy to 100 yards and acceptable even beyond that.

It's an intriguing piece, and I like the lines.

Do the 10-round mags it comes with fit and function in an AR15?

Do the Kel Tec SU rifles and this PLR have chrome lined barrels? Are they 5.56 or .223? Thanks.

Thanks Beer_Slayer. I like this gun alot, but I can't help wondering if the SU16C isn't more practical and versatile. Are any owners here having any quality issues?

Practicallity is a question that allways seems to crop up regarding the PLR-16 (or any AR pistol).

I like to think of owning a PLR as being just as practical as owning an SUV.

Sure, some people really need to drive an SUV to go off-road, or haul lots of stuff, but most drive them everyday just because they are big, and powerfull, and fun to drive.

That's kind of like the PLR-16. some people will find them practical, but for most of us, they are just plain fun to shoot.

I guess you are both 100% correct. This is a "FunFactor" gun. The foldable SU16C has a certain utility appeal. I have an AR and a VEPR, so I don't really NEED this gun, but I sure do want it

the first one had a case seperation and disentigrated.

Was this ammo related do you think? Nice that they replaced it for you, but you're lucky you weren't injured.

+1 on the customer service at Kel-Tec - he isn't exaggerating.

Since I too have an AR15, the PLR would just be for fun at the range, etc.; I think that is what it was really designed for.

Barring a vertical foregrip, how does wrapping your left hand around the mag well work for a two-handed hold?

Also, what's a fair retail price for these things?

I have a pistol purchase coming up.  I'm torn between something in .45ACP and one of these.

I know they make a polymer front end for the PLR - kinda like the short handguards on an AR15 but with some rails, etc.

I just took my new PLR-165 to the range on Friday and it was a total blast to shoot. Hell I didn't even make it to the firing line when I had 2 range workers ask what it was. I only brought 160 rounds with me and with the 2 range workers and 2 other ppl who asked about it after I let them shoot it I only had about 100rds for myself LOL.

This is the best bang for the buck IMO, fun to shoot, not very accurate with the iron sights, but just a fun gun to shoot. I just bought a cheap BSA red dot to see if that helps it to be more accurate. I can't wait to go back to the range with it.

I just ordered the ghost ring sight from Kel-Tec for mine.  (Used to aperature on AR's)  Fired close to 700 rounds through mine from various mags, no problems whatsoever.

This is one of the toys for 2006 I will be adding to my collection.

Just an FYI, I received an "official" reply from BATF about my inquiry for a vertical fore grip and they confirmed the addition of the vertical grip makes it an AOW. Which, I'm pretty sure, all of us suspected as such anyway.

Odd question, but I wonder if they make a holster for this.

I just picked up one of these yesterday, and took it to the range for a while.  It was pretty fun to shoot.  I'll be registering it as an AOW once I get my SOT this summer.

I'm actually thinking about picking up several more, registering them as AOW's, adding VFG's, and selling them as AOW's, for about the average retail price of a PLR-16 pistol.  Of course, it will mean the buyer would have to wait for the tax stamp, but in the end, they'd be able to legally have a VFG mounted.  Any interest in a PLR-16 AOW?

In a word, yes.

An SOT payer can register an AOW without paying any additional fee, as they've already paid the requisite SOT tax.  All that is required is the filing of a Form 2 with BATFE.  Once the weapon is on the NFA registry as an AOW, the buyer files a Form 4 and pays a $5 transfer tax.

If an individual were to register an AOW themselves, they'd have to pay a $200 manufacturing tax.

Of course, if the individual files the Form 1 to manufacture it themselves, they'll be able to continue to use the weapon as a pistol while they wait for the tax stamp to be approved.  They just can't put the VFG on it until the stamp comes back.

If the SOT registers the AOW, the buyer has to wait for the stamp to be returned in order to take possession of the weapon and take it to the range.

It's just a question of what is more important to the buyer: saving $195 dollars, or being able to shoot the pistol during the 3-4 month wait.
