SP01 Tac. vs. Glock 34?

Hey guys.

I'm looking for a gun to bang steel with. I'm currently using a Sig 2022 Polymer framed .40 for UDPA and local steel matches, but the gun is very whippy, which makes follow-up shots difficult.

So I'm looking for somewhat of a range gun that COULD be carried if necessary. What are the odds anyone has shot/owned both a Glock 34 or 17 Longslide and an SP01 tactical?

I'd like to hear your opinions on which one and why.

Well, I have not shot a 17L or a '34, but I do own both an SP-01 and a regular '17 and have shot them side by side on a few occasions.

Both of them have very, very light recoil. The CZ probably has a little less, but not by much. I wasn't shooting them for comparison really. I can get hits with both of them with equal ease. They're both very comfortable to me. The CZ is a bit heavier though. Both have been 100% reliable. You can't go wrong either way, really.

Mags for the Glock are cheaper and more readily available.

How about firing lead through the CZ?

I've heard the 34 doesn't like cast stuff, how about the SP01?

i owned both the 34 and SP01 and took them shooting together. the SP01 is heavier but way better trigger, i don't like the poly finish, but love the grip angle and grips, i like the single .action trigger allot. the glock is light, cheap mags, and lots of add ons but, but striker pistols aren't for me. both ate everything i fed them, its nice to have something different than all my buddies i kept the SP01 and am glad i did,

CZs have regular rifling and lead is GTG in them.

To me, the grip angle and which one feels better to you would solve your dilema. I'm going to guess the CZ grip angle fits you better? I know it does for me, and this is what kept me from getting a G34 when I was looking into getting one last year.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm just a CZ guy through and through. I like 1911s too, and I can go a few routes on .22 pistols maybe, but CZs are for me.

So far, I have a 75 Police, 75 Compact, 75 SAO, SP-01, Kadet adapter, CZ 83, plus I think seven CZ bolt action rifles. They're really starting to monopolize my collection.

the mag release on CZ's are accessable by just about anyone.

OTOH, *many* people have a difficult time reaching or disengaging the glock mag release.

not a major issue, since there are aftermarket fixes out there, but something to think about.

I'm going to try to find a stocking CZ dealer out here. I got to shoot a 34 and made hits VERY easily. However, I didn't try any tactical reloads. Going to try to handle the CZ.

FWIW, I just picked up an SP-01 today (decocker version). SA trigger is sweet, on par with my best 1911. Even the DA pull from the half-cock position isn't too bad.

I picked up an SP01 too. Not the 'tactical' decocker model, but the safety version. The prices of the 34's drove me away. Although, with the price of CZ mags and the new grips I'll need to shoot IDPA, it sure makes that a moot point.

I have a polymer framed Sig and I just don't like polymer framed guns.

I just bought a CZ SP01 Shadow and I love this gun. Accurate, great trigger out of the box and easy to shoot. Took it to my first match Sunday. Wow.

I wish I'd had one of these before. I really can't sing its praises enough.

I dont think there is any comparison, then again I am old fashioned and think cars and firearms should be made with metal.

Well I just bought a 34 off the EE here and have taken the SP-01 out a few times, so I'll let you know my opinion here in a week or so.

Both are great. The glock is lighter. The SP01 is more accurate. Plus, you can shoot lead through the SP01. Mags are less expensive with the Glock.

The 34 can also be used in IDPA without $100+ worth of modifications.

$40 grips
3x10 rd. magazines = $100-120

I shoot informal matches. So, the weight thing to me is only a bonus for keeping recoil down.

put 120 rds thru my SP-01 Tactical today. WOW, the trigger and accuracy are beyond belief. I ended up putting two magazines through a ragged 1.5" hole at 10 yards and I'm a horrible pistol shot. This is my new carry pistol.

I'm kinda slow, why do you need to change the grips to shoot IDPA, I thought the whole point of IDPA was to compete with an out of the box gun?

Because it weighs too much to be used in the stock service pistol class, and since it has a full length dust-shield, it must meet the SSP weight to be used in the Enhanced Service Pisotl class.

Folks switch to a lighter weight grip to make the cut.
