But why kill the Kadet? When I wanted one I had to wait a couple of months. Damn thing just runs and runs . It's one of my favorites.

The 83 has been in need of a revamp for years....it's a homely pistol, especially considering how nice the 75 looks. It's also kind of big for not being a 9x19 gun. I'm not sad in the least, I just hope that ceasing production will add to capacity increase of other, better models. I know that stainless guns in all metal framed models would be a big hit, not to mention an aluminum framed SP-01.

Maybe in this country where 9x19 is legal to own, but for many other countries where .380 is the biggest legal pistol cartridge, there certainly would be a market for a compact size double stack handgun. But yeah I think what killed it here is $400 for a largish .380 in a country where .380 is mainly wanted in a pocket sized handgun. All the CZ 82s for half the price certainly don't help either. |

The supply of CZ-82s is big, I think it just ended up not having economic sense to import it. That said, a cheaper version of the CZ-83 (plastic framed?) would be competitive.

I would have loved to have had a .22LR version of an 83 with a suppressor-ready threaded barrel. I know there is the JANE conversion, never saw one in person though and I don't really expect to.

$249 shipped for the pistol in VG condition, 2 mags, and assorted paraphernalia. Definitely gonna have to check out Allan's Armory for those mags though...

It's understandable from a practical sense. A little large and heavy for a non-9x19. But it's still a neat package of a double stacked blowback operated pistol. I've always liked the looks and feel of Beretta's M84 but I'm amazed of the stout recoil. I'm guessing it's a combination of blowback operation and lightweight alloy frame. The CZ83 has a steel frame and I find it a relatively light recoiler. The 82 chambered in 9x18 has a stouter recoil and reminds me of the 84, still not quite as stout feeling. The 83's chambered in .32 have always seemed very intriguing, a medium framed blowback pistol chambered in a relatively mild caliber, having a fifteen round magazine capacity. Now for looks, I love the appearance of the 83/82 series, large grip and small slide look very exotic to me, especially the older round trigger guard guns. I morn the passing of this classic and will value mine all the more.

Well also when you think that for $180 you can get an 82 plus accessories, and then drop another 200 in grips and refinishing (On the expensive side) and for $380 or less you can have a handgun restored to whatever you want it to look like, cheaper than an 83. I could find an 83, buy and 82 and customize it to look the same for cheaper than buying new. |

OP, thanks for the head's up on this. I have been wanting a CZ83 in 32 for some time and never pulled the trigger––but with this news, I finally did. I may buy a 380 in nickel as well before they are gone. Mags sure are expensive though––like HK expensive!

I have a Beretta 84FS that I am very happy with, and use as a carry gun. I like the 83, but really have no need of another 84 sized .380. However, I am a fan of pretty much anything .32. I wonder if I can still dig up a .32 ACP 83?

Over the years that I have owned CZ's their service has been as good as any. As for the 83...buddy has one. The thing is a good piece but when you put it next to my 75 P-01 I can see why they would drop it. The P-01 is about the same size, its lighter, its real 9mm and not the 9mm Kurtz (9mm Browning...or .380 as you know it). The 83 is just an older model that has newer guns out to take its place. I would imagine it uses up production capacity for a pistol that frankly is not a big seller...despite a loyal following from some. I have looked at them but never could see the money as the P-01 matched it in size but with the power advantage.
As for the Kadet: One expensive .22 pistol! And, the Kadet is a .22 and nothing more. If you buy a 75 and a Kadet Kit you can change back and forth. I have a Kadet kit and love it, other than hard to get and expensive magazines. I have a new 75 with the Omega trigger and guess what....my "Kadet 1" will work with it with a very minute adjustment. So, I can use my Kadet upper on both my P-01 and my 75 Omega....I am a happy camper all the way around. |
