Try a box of Winchester RA45T. I don't know how it will function in an RA45T, but it's great ammo that functions flawlessly in my 1911. IMO it would be worth buying a box or two to function test . . .

there are many great offerings out there that have proven themselves, but i always try them out for myself in my own guns to make sure they are reliable. the criteria that i use for testing defense ammo is 1) reliability 1-200rds must be 100% reliable or they are a no go. 2) shootability, during pairs, hammers, etc, basically make sure that they are controlable. 3) accuracy this is important but with the modern loads and the makers i have yet to find a defense load out there that i would disqualify for not being accurate enough. they don't have to be able to achieve match grade accuracy and win a competetion they just have to be good enough for me to win a fight for my life. i would try hornaday xtp's, golden sabers, winchester sxt, i have also had great luck with the winchester sxz which is an exclusive bass pro offering, gold dots, there are some good places to start right there,

I use Federal Hydra-shoks (if it was good enough for the FBI, it's good enough for me
 ); but my buddy was telling me about the Corbon DPX rounds. I'm thinking of trying some of those to see if they feed reliably. Until I can check them out, though, Hydra-shok it is!Here's the Corbon DPX:  |

Life or death? Winchester Supreme SXT 230gr., followed closely by Speer Gold Dots.
I have run hundreds of both round types through my XD45, along with some Hornady. Although both are expensive (compared to most other rounds), those would always be my choice. Never a problem of any kind from either. |

Be careful with the newly manufactured lots of Winchester Ranger-T .45 +P. A bunch of folks with XDs (me included) on my department have been having a bunch of feed problems with it. The old stuff worked beautifully, but this new stuff has a high rate of feed failures. I was seeing upwards of once per magazine. Definitely not something to stake your life on. So far it seems to be the problem is limited to the XDs.
A good reason to test each lot for proper function. My XD went from bet-your-life-reliable to where I'd rather go to my backup first. There is a slight difference in the shape of the bullets. The older Ranger-T bullet is more rounded whereas the newer lot is more conical in shape. Not something that is readily apparent unless comparing the two side by side. I don't know if this problem is also apparent in the non +P rated .45 ammo, but considering the bullet used is the same, it's something to be cautious of. |

I like Federal Hydra-Shok for 45 ACP and several other calibers. It's reliable, feeds without a problem and is usually very accurate. I'd use it for target ammo in my custom 1911 if it weren't for the cost.
 From experience in CSI I avoid anything in FMJ for defense. We had one shooting scene with a Corbon load in 45 GAP cartridge. The bullet performed textbook, losing only one pedal after hitting heavy bone and muscle. I'm impressed and now have some for the 45 ACP. We did ballistic gel testing when we decided to go away from the 9mm. Speer Gold Dot came out most impressive in 40 S&W. I would hope the same would hold true for their load in 45 ACP. |

Speer gold dot in my XD .45 compact. Have had no FTF or FTE what so ever. All of the brands mentioned are good though...I guess it's a matter of prefferance.

If you have a 4 or 5 inch XD I would go with 230 grain Speer Gold Dots. If you have a barrel thats shorter than that I would go with 185 grain Gold Dots. Either way Speers bonded core will hold together better than most if you ever have to shoot through a barrier.
