Not sure about brake cleaner, but a can of gunscrubber will do the trick. Also not sure how different the chemical makeup of the two products are, they may very well be the same. But at least with the gunscrubber you won't have to wonder if it's melting you gun's insides

Brake cleaner is some nasty stuff to get on anything with a paint or a finish. I have accidentally spattered some on my Jeep while changing my brakes and didn't really notice it because brake cleaner is red and so is the jeep. It took the paint off down to the metal. There is no way I would use it on a firearm even if it is the non chlorinated kind.

Yep....get the one that says synthetic safe on the can. I use brake cleaner for a lot of things......but haven't got brave enough to hose down on of the XDs.

I was a auto tech for 10 yrs. ( still do it on the side) I use brake cleaner on everything. Some brands are more harsh but most don't hurt plastic. Try CRC non-chlorinated. I hose all my guns down with it.

I took the Gunscrubber back and got some Winchester aerosol gun cleaner/lube
and I bought some non-chlor brake cleaner. So I think I'm all set. Thanks guys.... |
