Not crazy about the grips that's on it. The wood ones are orginals he sanded and stained but lost the screw for back in the 70's.

There are plenty of aftermarket grip makers that will make smooth grips for a Python,no need to destroy the originals. |

Value only matters if you plan on selling.  Do tell what are some good places to check for grips? I have looked high and low and haven't seen much that I have liked. It's nothing like hunting for S&W grips where the sky is the limit. ETA: My Python is from the mid-90s. The grips have penciled hand-writing on the inside stating they were from the early 70's. I don't know enough about the grips to be able to tell if that is true, or some less than honest person wrote that down to try to sucker someone into paying more. |

I'd put my dad's grips back on it and keep it till i'm dead if it were me Yup...that's what I'd do...my 1985 Colt Python in stainless came with Pachmayr "standard" stocks and I replaced them with grippers (saved the original Colt gold logo'd for those worried about resale ;) )...but those "Bill Jordan" look-a-likes look very nice and I bet could tell a few stories...mine can too...keep 'em like Dad had it... Bill |

I also understand the concept of an heirloom. It's still a shame. You disagree that having the originals right next to the set of aftermarkets that Dad whittled on would be a good thing? FWIW, I modify my firearms to suit me. I fully expect that in 40 years when I'm gone, someone will be shaking their head and telling my daughter "What a shame."

Those rubber grips that are on it just don't feel natural to me. Not worried about resale as I imagine this will stay in the family. But, it would be nice to have an original set of grips as well. |

I appreciate the ugly Hogue rubber grips on my S&W more after about 30 rounds or so of .357.
I agree with the folks that said heirloom trumps collector. That and I like the looks of the grips your Dad modified. |
