you could, but I would recommend using a string to pull the trigger and standing behind ballistic glass because it's going to explode like a firecracker

.410 guns' chamber size is NOT .410. The actual chamber size is nearly identical to the .45 Colt.

Yes, some guns are made to shoot both .45 Colt and .410 shotgun shells, but typically, when it's made to do both, it does neither one very well.

good point the Tarus judge shoots both the .410 shell and the 45LC

Thanks I am not going to try this just wondering but the Gorilla has shed some light on this question

Thanks

I guess gorilla's are a litte more insightful than Monkey's

SAAMI specs say a .410 2.5" shell max pressure is 12,500 psi.

SAAMI specs for a .45 LC max pressure is 14,000 psi.  In addition, the .45 caliber bullet entering the .41 caliber barrel might spike the pressures even more.

So off the cuff, I'd say shooting a .45 LC in a .410 that's not designed for it could cause your shotgun to catastrophically disassemble itself.

Ok so the .410 shotghun is not a .41 size barrel inside diameter I do not believe.

The 45 lc has a .454 diameter bullet where as the .41 mag has a .410 diameter bullet  ( SAMMI pressure max show 36,000 much higher than the 45lc or .410 shotgun).

So in the Judge by Tarus the barrel must be .454 in diameter to handle the 45 LC  plus the chambers ect for a .454 diameter cartright to fit.
I guess on a shotgun barrel diameter is not important except for groupings. But the .410 shotgun cartridge must be .454 in diameter??

What is the diameter of a .410 shotgun bullet anyone???

Size Matters

The Bore of a .410, is nominally .410” reducing at the muzzle depending on the Choke.

The Chamber is about .470” (I don’t have the hull diameter info)

A .41 Mag is about .434”

A .45 Colt is about .480”

But the rim of a .410 is much larger than a .41 Mag so it would drop in the chamber, probably stopping inside maybe flush with the mouth. (don’t have either or I would try it!) Likewise the .410 is not going to chamber in a .41 Mag chamber - even if length weren't a factor.

The .45 Colt is the nearest match. But as limaxray pointed out, there is that pesky pressure issue. The shotgun was never ever intended to operate at those pressures assuming you could even set on off in there.

Most recent .45 Colt barrels are actually .451 and I suspect Tarsus in no exception.

Slugs for .410 range from .389 to .409 but they are riding on a Wad and don’t really touch the bore. So a for a Wad, going from .410 to .451-.454 is not that big of a stretch (sorry, couldn't resist)

Damn, wished I'd stocked up on that 20mm ammo for my H&R .20 Ga. when I was a kid. That really sucks. I could kick my ass.
