I'm mainly looking for Smith & Wesson revolvers. Got a 28-2 that needs a new rear sight assembly, but 1974 seems to be the "magic date" for a design change...

N111,XXX is the serial number

I know very little about S&W Revolvers There are some folks in the wheelhouse section at Glocktalk who seem to know Smiths pretty well. Maybe they could help you?

Brownells.com has a lot of S&W factory parts for Smiths. Charles the Gunsmith.

That serial number should be approx. 1974. There should not be any design changes in the model 28 in 1974. There were no major changes until 1982 when it went to the 28-3.
