Looking at getting one of these, and was curious if anyone could compare
quality of 2nd Generation and 3rd Generation models?  

Certainly the price is a lot higher on 2nd Gen models from say the 1960's to
1970's.

I've been told that the USFA revolvers (made under the blue dome on Colt tools) are as nice or better than anything Colt ever made. They might be worth checking out.

I could be wrong, but aren't they (US Firearms) built in the dome out of Italian made parts?

yes they are indeed reworked Uberti's, but they are made per orginal SAA specs and the finish/action of them are bar none the best I've seen.
