Perhaps you could clarify what your needs and wants are to make it easier to help us guide you.

Most would suggest a .357 mag as a good place to start... A 4" Smith 586/686 or the Ruger counterpart are both hard to beat.

I prefer the trigger feel and cylinder releases on Smiths wheelguns... To each their own.   Good luck on your search.

Used Smith (pre-lock) or Ruger SP101.

Definately either a Ruger or S&W.  Used is fine, that's how I've bought 90% of my revolvers.

Used Ruger would be a good way to go. Bought my Super Blackhawk for $250 a couple months back, has a lot of holster wear, but shoots great.

+1 you can find a good used GP100 for around $350 or a  older S&W 28. I bought a mint S&W 28-2 that is mint $530 otd. You just have to look to get lucky!

I just bought a used Taurus .357 7 shot. It's been great. $290
Just make sure you check out what ever you buy and know what to look for.

Ruger makes a real nice revolver. Just too heavy for what they are.
I keep seeing post about cheap S & W's. If I could run across one I would certainly pick it up. But there is no such thing around here.

A Ruger GP-100 is a fine revolver.  You can't hurt one, so I'd suggest getting a used one.  You should be able to find one on gunbroker all day long for $400.

Here is mine... blued with Galco Alves grips...  love it.

How much are you looking to spend and what style/caliber/etc are you looking for? I picked up a S&W Model 10 for $230 OTD the other day in good shape. A good used S&W or Ruger can be had for around $300 or less. You can get a new S&W 637 or 642 for under $400 as well if you want a snubbie. Don't waste your time/money on something cheap.

Wow. I need to move to FL. I found one beater S & W model 10 for $350 here but had to pass. Average price on a decent used S & W here is $450

Police trade in SW 65 or 66 revolver ––––   I bought a nice Model 66 for $395  and 65's were less than that    (65 is the fixed sight version)

Minimal wear and nice seer lockup, ––- but somewhat cosmetically challenged  –– typical for police guns––––––––––––––-  places like CDNN and others usually have these –– but who knows when the supply will run out  (kinda like MAkarovs in the 90's –– they just dried up
