Nice looking revolver.  Does this have a smaller frame size than the GP-100?  I'm not current on what the SP-101 offers compared to the GP-100.

GP 100 is bigger and has 6 round cylinders

SP 101 is a medium frame and has 5 round cylinders

This.

Though, handling the one at the shop today.....my S&W 620 (L-frame 7-shot) is the same length, and only 1/4" taller, holds 2 more rounds, has better sights, and feels to be the same weight (even though my 620 is 9 ounces heavier).

Overall, it's not quite what I thought it'd be; if I'm going to get an SP101 with the 4.2" barrel, the .22 seems like a much better choice for the money, IMO; the 3" SP101 is still a helluva piece.

That's a beautiful gun!

What would be the purpose of a 5 shot 4" barrel?

the cool factor is definitely there.   also the SP being a smaller frame can fit smaller hands better than a GP. now only if the can make the LCR in 22mag as well............

I am hoping to see one of these, it might be a good trail/bag gun for me.  The other contender is one of the 5 shot lt wt Smiths but I like the idea of the 4" brl.

Nice!  Get the Wolf spring kit and polish the trigger.  That is a solid shooter.

I'm glad they went back to full lug on the barrel.

Why a 4" 5 shot?

Because the GP100 is huge! SP is a lot trimmer. Closes the gap between the two. I'm still waiting for the 3".

Not sure what you mean.  3" SP101s and GP100s have been around for years (and awesome!!).  I'm diggin the 4" SP101 though, didn't know about them until this thread. Seems almost perfect to me, just lose the gay fiber front sight, and add an all-steel, or tritium front blade like the SW60 pro. Adjustable sights, carry-able, should be accurate, tough enough for lots of  full power .357 shooting.  Win win.

I've been totin around a 3" GP and the 2.25" SP. The GP is fine, it's just big. The SP is fine, it's just short with fixed sights.

I want something in between. Throw it in a holster, go deer hunting, and still plenty good for everything else.

Thanks for the info.  I like it.  I'd like one in 44SPL & 10mm...
4" also makes it legal for deer hunting in IL, longer sight radius, less recoil.

How hard would it be to change out the front sight on one of these. I'm not a fan of the sight but I think everything else looks great and it would good with my 3"sp101.

I really like the looks of the gun too but that front sight has to go, it looks like a construction level

NJ law says they must approve or deny you in no more than one month. If your police chief makes a habit of taking too long you could try having a lawyer inform him of the law. Some people have done that with success.

yeah the law is great, but there is also standing now that they can take as long as needed due to a lawsuit already.
Besides it sometimes helps me LOL
