thinking of kimber 9mm tactical II for first handgun. should i buy a 1911 in a 9mm. thanks.

I know the ladies like the 1911 in 9mm a lot. Personally I like the 9x23mm round for the 1911. Also the .45acp is a classic and I'd choose that over the regular 9mm for a 1911 pistol. If you want a good 9mm I suggest buying a Sig P226 or a Beretta 92FS. But it is all what you prefer.

If you like the single action that a 1911 affords get it in whatever caliber you like.  Good thing about 9mm is the ammo is cheap and you can shoot alot for a little.  Look to Double Tap for some really hot defensive 9mm loadings.
