I ordered a Hogue wrap around with finger grooves for my MARK XIX Desert Eagle tonight. I can't wait to install it. How hard is it to remove the existing grip and install the Hogue? The owners manual says nothing about removing the existing grip. Thanks in advance, Mike

You caught be on a boring day so I figured I'd hook this thread up with some pictures.




Desert Eagle .44 with stock grips:

Using the Desert Eagle multi-tool, or a pin punch, etc...  press in on the hole in the bottom of the frame to depress the grip retainer pin.

With the pic depressed, slide the grip straight towards the back.

You'll need to spread the grips apart to get them fully off of the frame because of these little nubs inside the grip.

Heres the back side of the frame.  This is where the black plastic block goes.

It's sometimes hard to start into place and you might need to use a bit of force.  But make sure it is slid all the way in, until the black plastic block touches the frame projection that it slides into fully.

Spread the Hogue grip open and place it over the frame from the front of the handgrip.

You will need to pull up and pop the little tabs into place on the back side of the frame.

Screw the fasteners through the grip and into the black plastic block that you installed earlier.  Do both sides.

Great Post, I just got my DE, and was thinking of doing the same thing. I had no idea that there would be that much to it. Thanks for the detailed info.

Nicely done. Perfect example of why I come to this forum and others like it, the members.

One more small thing.
Make sure the internal tabs (clips) facing the front strap of the pistol grip are pushed forward (towards the front strap) as much as possible. Otherwise they might interfere with the magazine. They will be rubbing on the grooved surface of the magazine and make insertion and especially removal of the magazine difficult.

Thanks for the How To on the grips. I just got my Desert Eagle today and the first thing I did was come back to this thread and re-read it. Then I installed my new grips. After cleaning the "fiddy" first of course.

Hows that coating?  Is it a metallic plating, or does it seem more like a "plistic" coating?

I'm trying to do something similar but I'm not sure what to use.

Hey Bang,
The coating is "Gold Titanium". It's a factory coating that's supposed to be extremely hard. It's the same coating they use on drill bits. That's the reason I got it instead of the 24k gold. The 24k is for looking at and the Gold Ti is for shooting.

Do the rubber grips make it a little more manageable?  I don't have tiny hands (I'm 6'3") but even I feel like I barely have a handle on that thing when I fire it.  The stock grips are so hard and slick.  Mix it with the nasty wet Miami humidity and slightly sweaty hands and sometimes I feel like it's about to jump right out of my hands.  (it's the .50 AE)  I think I'm going to order these grips either way, but I wouldn't mind some feedback from people who have used them so I can know what to expect.

I have them on my .50 AE Mk XIX, and they are fantastic.   It really does make a difference, IMO.   Much better control.    You can really dig into the grip with these.  I have decent sized paws too, and these grips really help.

I'm having trouble getting the original grip off.  I'm depressing the pin in the grip with the multitool that comes with it, but the grip isn't even budging.  Any tips?
