I resisted for a long time, but I think it's time to get my first H&K.  I'm honestly open to anything, but would lean toward a 45ACP ... 10mm if one existed

What would you suggest as the best representation of the HK brand?  What should I start with?  I doubt I'd carry it (whatever it is), just looking for a nice shooting nice handing gun that'll hold it's value.

HK45 is better ergonomically... both guns are sex machines.

Haha, I think that's about where I am right now ... do I go with the HK45 or a USP Tactical?  What are the differences between them?

I would get the 45 USP. The Tac has adjustable sights and a threaded BBL. If you are wanting to suppress it or just something for the range then get the Tac. However the USP45 is better for all around. A threaded barrel is not important at all unless you plan to supress. The Tac MIGHT even have a match trigger!?!? I'm not exactly sure about the trigger.

The HK45 is a bit different. I dont know much abouot the new HK45s other than they have adjustable rear grip straps and side panels for the grip, and they have a new style decocker that is next to the hammer and is a button style decocker.

I tried, and I still want an HK

I think I'm leaning toward a full size USP Tactical .45 with an OD frame, Variant 1 or 3.  The Variant choices are available in the Tactical version aren't they?

Yes, but they are long out of production. But I just scored an OD off Gunbroker, NIB.

If I were to buy an HK in .45ACP, it would be either the HK45 or HK45C.  I would skip the USP line entirely.  I own a 9mm USP if that helps.

Keep in mind the fact that a threaded barrel is one of the many features that will be illegal under the new AWB, when OBuckwheat and his minions get around to having it enacted.

But for that, a Mark 23 crew-served handgun would fill your bill. Its not good for much except range use and to admire; but what a shooting machine.

I'll second (or third?) the recommendation of an HK45. I was planning on getting one myself; until the P7 bug bit HARD.

loving my tactical, but the 45 is more ergonomic. the two things that make it better are the extended slide release and the new dust cover rails. the old ones were damaged when the light laser came off my tac. kinda sore about that. if you want 12 rounds and wicked features for shooting go tac. if you want 10 rounds and more ergonomic and light laser friendly go 45. my best friend just got his 45 so ive handled both side by side and both are great. just depends on what impulse or features drive you.

Thanks for all the responses ... so the colored frames are no longer in production?  That's a bummer, I'll be ordereing whatever it is I decide to get.  My dealer gives me excellent pricing, better than used usually, so I go with him.

There's no factory threaded barrel option for the HK45 obviously, but is there a good aftermarket source for one?

Yep. Much better trigger as well as allowance for a can should one wish to add one down the road.
